It's like a split squad preseason game. They have two teams with (relatively) the same number of the guys expected to make the true team on each team. When they play combined, half of the players from those 2 teams sit and only the expected guys play. - jmatchett383
I expect to not give a hoot about that tournament |

Haha, yep, just like the Phillies and the wrong brothers, here are a few:
Ken Brett, instead of George
Jeremy not Jason Giambi
Mark not Al Leiter
I also think we had a DiMaggio not named Joe and probably a few others I am missing... - Lawless18
Mike (not Greg) Maddux
Gilbert (not Marcel) Dionne
Harvey (not Curt) Bennett
Then again, Philly had Mark (not Marty) Howe, Eric (not Brett) Lindros, Randall (not Sam, although he was good in his own right) Cunningham, Caldwell (not Major) Jones, etc.
So it evens out to some degree. |

From the last thread re: the home run-saving catch
To me, this catch was made in the bullpen, not in the field of play. I see it kind of like the NFL out of bounds catch rule. He jumped, made the catch, and then landed in the bull pen. In baseball, does it matter where he ends up? Could a player theoretically go a few rows deep into the bleachers and a make a catch to have a player be out? - jmatchett383
I think if the catch is made before the body makes contact "out of bounds," it's an out.
In your bleachers example, unless it's a diving catch made before his body makes contact with the bleachers, no, it's not an out. |

Bill oddball question of the day. When Jason Becket was a flyers prospect. Who would you compare him to from the current group? If any at all. - rinaldo
Not really anybody in the current group. Most recent comparable would be Kevin Marshall.

There's also Mike (not Bob) Golic, but Mike Golic wasn't a bad player for the Eagles.

So it's where his feet were before the catch that counts, not after? |

And now, because I'm sitting at work with pretty much nothing to do, here is my top 10 list of the Flyers all time best powerplay performers. The stat line is GP PPG PPA and PPPTS
Here we go!
Honorable Mentions:
Rick Macleish 741 98 113 211
John Leclair 649 102 81 183
Simon Gagne 691 74 97 171
10. Shayne Gostisbehere 142 10 35 45
Ghost has a unique skill set that is perfect for powerplays and 3 on 3 OT. He has a wicked shot and soft hands, and, as he gains experience, he will probably move up a few spots on this list
9. Mark Howe 594 39 123 162
Howe was a fantastic pp quarterback and excelled at getting off a hard, low wrist shot that was easy for the net front guys to deflect. He had great hands and vision.
8. Wayne Simmonds 447 75 51 126
Simmer is arguably the best net front pp in the NHL right now. He has deceptively soft hands and a willingness to fight for position against much bigger Dmen. He also excels at driving goalies nuts too.
7. Chris Pronger 145 9 39 48
Pronger was as good a pp quarterback as I've ever seen. His shots were rarely blocked and his passes were tape to tape. He also had the innate ability to know when to pass and when to shoot.
6. Bobby Clarke 1144 99 230 329
Clarke did everything well, including playing on the pp. He's one of the great pp set up men of all time and he wasn't afraid to go after the puck in the corners nor go to the net. He is the all time Flyers leader in pp assists and points.
5. Eric Lindros 486 82 121 203
Lindros was hard enough to stop at ES, on the pp, he was a terror. His quick release backhand was a unique weapon too. He was simply a frightening combo of strength and skill and he opened up the ice for everyone else.
4. Bill Barber 903 104 176 280
Barber had the ability to play anywhere on the pp, though during his peak years, he usually manned the point. He had a great shot, was an excellent passer and rarely made a bad decision with the puck. Even though he is in the hall of fame, I don't think he gets enough credit for just how good he was. IMO, he was the best all around player to ever play for the Flyers.
3. Claude Giroux 656 62 175 237
By the end of 17-18, Claude will probably be 3rd all time in pp scoring 2nd all time in pp assists for the Flyers. He is arguably the best pure pp set up guy in the NHL right now. His passes are usually on the money and I wish he'd use his lethal one timer even more. He is the engine that has been driving the Flyers top notch 1st unit pp the last few years.
2. Peter Forsberg 100 13 37 50
Yeah, it's a small sample size, but when you average .50 ppg just on the pp, that is damned impressive. Forsberg was one of the all time great playmakers in NHL history and could run a pp as well as anyone.
1. Tim Kerr 601 145 93 238
The Flyers all time leader in pp goals, Kerr was the ultimate lethal weapon on the pp. What makes it even more impressive is that he did it in an era where it was basically legal for Dmen to all but mug guys who set up near the net. Kerr had, without a doubt, the quickest shot release that I've ever seen. The puck would touch his stick and before you could blink, it was in the back of the net. In this era, where clutching and grabbing actually draws penalties, I can't even imagine how many pp goals the big guy could have scored.

Based on last night's play I'd have to say yes. But I don't have my MLB rule book handy to confirm. |

Even with those guys next to him, half the time he still couldnt get past the line of scrimmage. He did swat down a goodly number of passes though. |

There's another one, we got the wrong Clyde (Drexler > Simmons).

Absolutely!! One of my all time favorite albums. I do think however, that their 1985 release "Perfect Strangers" was almost as good. Both albums also featured the classic lineup of: Gillian, Blackmore, Lord, Glover and Paice. |

He was highly though of at one point though no? him and Shayne Kenny.
Will always remember Clarke saying Kenny ate himself out of a contract or something to that effect |
