I don't know. They haven't really been players in FA or trades. A lot of what was done in trades was to clear cap space and vets. The Schenn trade can't really be answered until we see what happens with Frost and the next 1st rounder. - J35Bacher
It was the trades that Hextall made that allowed him to develop the top rated prospect pool in only three years.
Traded Hartnell for Umberger and a 2015 4th (#99) that was traded for a 2015 4th (#104 Vorobyev) and 2016 6th (#172 Salinitri).
Traded Tye McGinn for a 2015 3rd (#70 Sandstrom).
Traded Kimmo for a 2015 2nd (#61 used to trade up for Konecny), and a 2016 2nd (#52 Allison)
Traded Coburn for Gudas, a 2015 1st (#29 + #61 = #24 Konecny), and a 2015 3rd (#90 Tomek)
Traded Grossmann + Pronger for Gagner + 2016 4th (#120) that was traded for a 2017 4th (#108)
Traded Rinaldo for a 2017 3rd (#80 Ustimenko)
Traded LSchenn + Vinny for Weal + 2016 3rd (#82 Twarynski)
Traded 2016 1st (#18) + 2016 3rd (#79) for 2016 1st (#22 Rubtsov) and 2016 2nd (#36 Laberge)
Traded Streit for Filppula + 2017 4th (#107 Sushko) + 2017 7th (#196 Kalynuk)
Traded BSchenn for Lehtera + 2017 1st (#27 Frost) + 2018/19 1st
Traded 2017 2nd (#44) + 3rd (#75) + 4th (#108) for 2017 2nd (#35 Ratcliffe) |

Didn't say now.
But we will see what happens. New PP coach. Youth coming that will get minutes. I like Simmonds but maybe he doesn't get the same opportunities like before.
It will be an interesting season this year and next as more youth comes in. - J35Bacher
I just don't get why we need to move him. If anything, the offense is what needs the most help. I don't want to sign him for 8 years at $8M, but he's still one if (if not THE) premier power forwards in the league. He's one of the least-easily replaceable players on the team, or in the league even. Moving him because he will want a raise makes zero sense to me. |

I think there will be a time soon where one of Voracek/Giroux/Simmonds is moved. Big key of course is Patrick. If he shows he is your future number one center then i think you can try to move Giroux and then maybe you resign Simmonds.
But we will see. We will have to see how linblom and patrick play this year. |

well what do you do if he wants that type of deal you just mentioned or close to that?
what's the max you would go to resign him? |

I would be more concerned with term over money. Once you're at that 30 age i don't want deals I couldn't get out of. I am not a fan of the Ladd and Backes deals. |

I guess depends on this year.
He has 2 more years left. He is coming off a 31 goal 54 pt season. If he scores another 30 i would assume he'll be in line for something like 4-5 years at 5.5-6.5 range? Also depends on what cap does.
But say with the youth added and production drops because of guys like Lindblom/Patrick and konecny and he only scores in the 15-20 range. I don't know.
I think a lot depends on this year and seeing what happens with the roster. |

It isn't about moving him because of a raise, it is because the best years of his career are likely to be now and over the next few years, when the Flyers are rebuilding and on the cusp of taking the next step. Not a good time to begin having overpriced contracts for yesterday's players getting in the way of the young core.
He wouldnt be moved until next offseason anyway, so there isn't much to worry about right now. |

Well I see him getting more years and more money. At least 6 or more. This will likely be his last contract. He wants the home run I would guess. |

Of our "veteran" forwards, he is the one that I'd want to keep the most as we head into the next decade. If we have to move one of the big 3, he's the one I'd keep, and I love Giroux.
I believe that a guy like Simmonds can be a key to building a winner as the savvy vet type. To me, he's not untouchable, but he's the next step. |

And I would probably agree.
He has really outperformed this deal. So it will be interesting. I think this year is huge because if he somehow really drops in production do they question if it is something that will continue. |

Sell high is an avenue I explore; as maybe you get a real good package of nhl ready guys and/or picks. |

And maybe they do. I mean they seemed to use that thinking in moving Schenn who was younger.
If they are out of the playoffs come TDL he could be a very big piece for a playoff team because his contract isn't huge so he could fit anywhere.
And at that time teams are desperate to go for a cup so maybe you get a top prospect and 1st rounder.

Real talk: if they could score a nice haul for him next season at the deadline as a rental, I'd consider it. (frank)ing love the guy and would be really upset to see him go, but nowadays good rentals get you massive return. Could they get a pick and a younger, promising forward to fit in with a bunch of other younger promising players we hear so much about? Maybe. And signing a 30 yr old Simmer to a 6 yr, 6+ deal would spell headaches down the road when all these guys need raises (Provorov, Patrick, Sanheim, Morin, Lindblom....)
With such a big influx of youth it's easy to forget they'll all need contracts at around the same time. Now more than ever is the time to limit big contracts that carry the risk of albatrossing down the road.
It's just something to think about. |

He's our best offensive veteran? Really? Voracek and Giroux have to have injury plagued, arguably career worst seasons where they got demolished by the fans to replicate Simmonds at his peak.
We moved Schenn (RIP!!!) who is identical on the ice as Simmonds, few less goals, few more assists. If you want to fly the intangibles flag, that's fair, but in terms of actual on-ice value and production, how are they different? Because one was widely viewed as replaceable on-ice. |

That is a pretty big deal for a player that is 25.
How do you think Flyersbuzz would respond to a deal like that if he was on our team?

Considering he's been more like a 60-65 point player over his career, it definitely feels a mil high. But his goal scoring has went down; if he gets that back up he can be a 70 point guy. He's a 1C, Nashville can afford it, and he definitely might be someone that has another gear in him. Kuznetsov just got $7.8 x 8 years, so is what it is. Contracts are getting some bloat of late.
But that covers his age 25-32 seasons. That's mostly his prime. Why is age an issue? |

Not sure how you can say Schenn is identical on the ice
Over the past 4 years - Points - Assists - Goals
Simmonds: 224 - 104 - 119
Schenn: 202 - 113 - 89
That doesnt even account for the intangibles as you mentioned which is what makes Simmonds such a key part of the team.
