Why would a team give up something of value knowing the Rangers may buy him out? In addition, Tampa Bay signed him for two years, not three, though they are paying him 150K more they would have been on the hook for if NY had eaten half the cap hit to move him. There was no way Stevie Y was trading anything of value for him.
For Staal, it's four more years at $5.7 mil. Even if NY ate half of it, do you want to pay Staal $2.85 mil for each of the next four seasons? In addition, he has an NMC, so Staal would have to approve any trade. - airjan23
No but it beats having dead cap space for 8 years! How quickly do you think the fans in NY will chase him out. It is just going to get uncomfortable for him, when he becomes Redden. |

When the next lockout happens, Rangers just amnesty Staal's buyout. Problem solved. |

I don't see Uncle Lou trading with the Rangers ever. I doubt his hatred for the Rangers organization has subsided since he left NJ |

He submits a list of 15 teams. Staal would still have to approve the trade to 1 of those teams. Its that simple. |

Can't use LTIR until the season starts so Leafs have to be under FOR the start of the season. |

that's actually not true, it's been reported that LTIR is capable of being used in the summer
the only real problem the Leafs have is that once Connor Brown is signed they have 50 contracts and that's the max |

He would not want to sit in the press box for 4 years. Hockey players are proud guys and careers are short. He would prefer to have ice time - ask any player. |

let me ask you, if Marc Staal is sitting up in the press box for an extended period of time, considering he has 4 more years on his deal, even at half the cap hit, who the hell would want that?
right now there are guys like Franson and Markov available for free |

Rangers would like Bozak. Leafs could potentially get rid of bozak. But for Nick Holden? Absolutely franking not. We have like 5 NHL defenseman with Left hand shots and roughly 3-4 close to NHL ready prospects with a Left hand shot. His contract is do-able but if they trade bozak its for a 2nd round pick. |

The Rangers don't have the cap space to add Bozak, it's such a moot point that seemingly never ends |

Markov will not sign for 2.5.
If there are no takers for Staal he will sit and eventually get bought out. I just don't want so much dead cap space. That is my only point. |
