Why can't the Rangers find any takers for half of Staal's contract and eat the other half, instead of buying him out and have dead cap space for 8 years. I don't buy that there are no takers. G signed with lightning for 3/year. - TrueBlueRanger
Why would a team give up something of value knowing the Rangers may buy him out? In addition, Tampa Bay signed him for two years, not three, though they are paying him 150K more they would have been on the hook for if NY had eaten half the cap hit to move him. There was no way Stevie Y was trading anything of value for him.
For Staal, it's four more years at $5.7 mil. Even if NY ate half of it, do you want to pay Staal $2.85 mil for each of the next four seasons? In addition, he has an NMC, so Staal would have to approve any trade. |

but if the Rangers bought him out, he'd get a big check and then be free to sign where he wants
why would he let the Rangers choose his next place he plays when he controls the cards with his NMC - jimbro83
When you and I agree, you know there is a problem. |

That's why ppl are suggesting adding a pick. Not trying to get anything of value in return but paying someone (with a pick) to take him.
Example: Staal and a 2nd to TBL for a 5th. That's JUST AN EXAMPLE of what ppl are trying to say. FlavorSaver, don't take that as the gospel. - nyrangers9479

Nope. He has to waive the NMC first before he can get traded. |

Its like the people down here at the beach who have the most jacked up feet wear flip flops. Like 10 cornchips on a piece of foam. |

I looked it up. His NMC only pertains to waivers. So when he submits his list he doesn't have to waive the NMC as well to be traded. |

If you have feet that are veiny, deformed and nails that are the color of mustard and can grab fish out of a stream, you better damn well wear (frank)ing sneakers. |
