Can't agree Humongous, sorry. I don't happen to think they are equal. I think McDavid is on another level from everybody, but it is WAY too soon to make definitive statements one way or the other.
The REAL derp here is people blaming leafs fans for Eklund blatantly trolling for hits or who have a very negative view of Matthews when it is clear that the only reason is because he plays for Toronto. - Aetherial
Fair enough and all good. Matthews is unreal good make no mistake and yes there is a 'remains to be seen' factor here I just don't think Matthews is as close to Mcdavid as some may claim. 69 point rookie year for Matthews is fantastic...but McDavid was on pace with Kane for close to 95 pts his rookie season before the injury. Almost 'could have been a 30 pt variance in rookie point scoring.
Also I don't see Matthews getting 100 pts his second season...if ever. But I do see McDavid at close to 120 pts next year if healthy.
Not a Leaf or an Oilerr fan by any means and I'm trying just to see it for what it is. McDavid to me is just on another level than Matthews...and it's not particularly close IMO.
I get that Leafs fans will mostly be pro Matthews and Oiler fans pro McDavid...blah blah... |

All I have seen in here is Leaf fans all agree McDavid is the better player of the two.
Sure we support our Boy Matthews in how awesome of not just how good he is on the ice but off it as well. Doesnt mean we are saying he is better.
Where as Oiler fans just come here chirping thinking EK's word are also ALL of Leaf Nations. Which is pretty comical in my opinion, get off your high horses we know McDavid is likely a tier above.
We're almost in August folks! Getting closer and closer

It's unbelievable. All these teams so pissy about the Leafs having so many of the best young stars in the game. It's all cyclical. Good or bad management can either extend or shorten a strong period for the team, or a bad one.
Canucks fans are pissy because their team was never good enough to get them over the hump, and they have a long rebuilding phase ahead of them, despite them insisting over and over that their management was great and they had great young players in the pipeline that would make them avoid a rebuild.
Habs fans pissy because they realize they'll eventually follow the path of the Canucks. They're just treading water right now.
Sabres fans pissy because despite starting a rebuild before us, and making some great moves to start, their management starting screwing things up, and they're now behind us.
senturd fans are pissy too, you just don't see much from them because there aren't very many of them. - prock

f*&k, I was going to go on....
Half of them are accusing Leaf fans of being too cocky. Umm, okay. Maybe that comes from a decade of the idiot fans of those teams going "hahaha, you haven't won a cup in 50 years, we're so much better than you". But they're too stupid to see the irony in the fans of 3 franchises that have never won a cup, and another that hasn't won one in a quarter century.
We're too cocky? Yeah, well, after listening you jackoffs brag about how great you thought you were for so long, you better buckle the f*&k up, cause you and your trash heap franchises are in for a rough rough ride. |

Oh man all these salty Sabres fans in here are hilarious
Not our problem you didn't get Mcdavid,Matthews or Babcock |

What are you talking about. Did u listen to any sabres radio station during that year. We tanked for McEichel. We were getting a generational talent either way. That is why we tanked. Are we upset we didnt get mcDavid sure but we are extremly happy with jack. - hanleyaj
You still tanked you scrub, so stop chirping other fans when your own team did it.. and most of you sabturd fans cried when you lost out on mcdavid, don't lie |

Did he just say Eichel was a generational talent? Like Sid, Wayne, Orr and Lemieux? |

He will be a star in Buffalo for years to come, but pretty far from a generational talent imo.
And before anyone goes and replies saying "and Matthews is?". I never once implied that, so beat it! |

the term generational gets tossed around like it's nothing these days. First, it stopped being generational player, and started being generational centre/winger/dman. Then it went even further. "Laine has a generational shot". WTF is that??? Give me a break. "karlson is a generational offensively as a dman". What? Give me a break. Gaudreau has generational hockey IQ. LOL.
It's getting ridiculous. Soon it will be "Cal Clutterbuck is a generational forechecker", and "Gallagher is a generational 4th line plug".
These people sound like fools. |

Gretzky 55
Carson 55
Stamkos 51
Lemieux 43
Lindros 41
Turgeon 40
Hawerchuck 40
Matthews 40
Crosby 39
Yzerman 39
A list of the greatest goal scoring rookie seasons of all time, players 18-19 years old, and all played the C position (Stamkos debatable here).
Gretzky, Carson, Lemieux, Lindros, Turgeon, Hawerchuck, Yzerman, all played in eras that scored more goals than today.
I didn't do the research, but how many of them had all rookie wingers the entire season?
Food for thought, this is a pretty "generational" list. |

No. It isn't. The term generational should imply something so rare it comes along once in a generation. It's possible they can overlap lap Mario and Wayne, but most of those players are nowhere near the level of Wayne or ORR. Talk about taking a term reserved for the best 5 or 6 players of all time and watering it down so that a couple hundred players can make the list.
