Based on Ek's track record, Matthews is doomed.

The thing about Matthews is I could see his game aging better than McDavid's. McDavid's obviously the better player, his speed and skill make him the best player on the ice every game. But over time, speed is usually the first thing to go and is McDavid as effective if loses a step and he's not blowing by people? A player who can score from the dirty areas and dominate the zone usually isn't as affected by age IMO (Jagr, Thornton)

In the end I think McDavid will be the more notable player cause even if he loses a step he's talented enough to develop other areas of his game, like Crosby, but I think style of play is a reasonable talking point.

I kind look at it like a Stamkos vs a Thornton, two different styles of play but a guy like Thornton doesnt seem to be as affected by the grind of a career.

Jack was 11th overall last year in points per game. So it isnt far off and with a new coach he will get to play with kane all year long. which will help alot. Also with the improved defense he can easily put up 90+ points. We will have to just wait and see. All i know is that Phil picked Sabres over the panthers.
