You're correct. Crosby's is vastly different player than he was years ago. Good players are good. Bad players are bad. It's hockey, it not (frank)ing rocket appliances. Goalies know where shooters shoot. It's a very linear game. It's not like football (soccer) with changing formations. No one plays 3 dmen and 2 forwards. No one plays 1 dman and 4 forwards. The game doesn't change. It gets faster and more skilled but it doesn't change. You're over thinking a very simple game.

Notice how every scout report on a goalie, his weakness is always high glove? Over and over high glove.

I've never once heard low blocker bring an issue for the goalie.

Can't. I just enrolled in the Auston Mathews Leadership Course and it starts tonight!

you make it sound as if mcdavid doesnt make any scrub off the street playing on his line suddenly good but matthews does.....simply put,connor is the youngest captain ever for a reason.....PLAYERS LOVE THE KID!!!so matthews scored a bunch of goals.....id rather have mcdavids 30 goals and boat load of assists....though if 97 shot just a little more hed be closer to 40 anyways

The thing about Matthews is I could see his game aging better than McDavid's. McDavid's obviously the better player, his speed and skill make him the best player on the ice every game. But over time, speed is usually the first thing to go and is McDavid as effective if loses a step and he's not blowing by people? A player who can score from the dirty areas and dominate the zone usually isn't as affected by age IMO (Jagr, Thornton)

In the end I think McDavid will be the more notable player cause even if he loses a step he's talented enough to develop other areas of his game, like Crosby, but I think style of play is a reasonable talking point.

I kind look at it like a Stamkos vs a Thornton, two different styles of play but a guy like Thornton doesnt seem to be as affected by the grind of a career.

If Crosby plays the full season this year, he finishes with close to 50 goals, and maybe 1 or 2 shy of 100 points. He'd take home the Hart trophy for sure.

mcdavid had a better points per game.....and had something like tied for the best plus minus for a center ..tied with a selke nominee i might add.....the pens could survive without sid.....oilers wouldnt without mcdavid....most valuable to your teams success man is who wins the hart

Your post is both accurate (McDavid is better), and rediculous (Matthews is a "solid" player).

Matthews scored 40 goals as a 19 year old, playing C, with rookies as his wingers. Better than McDavid? No. A generational talent in his own right? Yes.

mcdavid woulda scored 40 too but the kid rarely shoots over the pass.....that being said il take 30 goals and 70 assists every yr over matthews numbers collecting a bunch of clean up goals
