Kid has poise, humbleness, and says all the right things. He didn't crumble under the spotlight of the biggest media circus in the NHL in his rookie year. He had a solid playoff series against the Caps and showed a hell of a lot of maturity as a rookie.

Not saying McDavid isn't or won't be a good leader. My opinion is that Matthews will be a better one.

Off season is when coaches/strategy people work the hardest. He will have to adapt/stay ahead. I'm not saying he can't do it, but it's too early to make this kind of claim IMO.

For sure. I think he'll struggle next year. Teams honestly seemed to not know who he was during last year. I saw the Capitals look surprised in the playoff series every game. It's so hard to keep track of players (unlike we do here on HB). I think some of the Caps thought he was a dman in games 4 and 5. Game 6, I think they confused him for Kadri

99 v 66, two guys that had lots of talent but had do not touch signs hung on them by the league. Much respect but other guys may have been as prolific given the same circumstances. Guys like Howe and Orr didn't have those luxuries. They should be the guys you're debating. So much respect to 99 & 66 but...

Toronto and Edmonton will only be as good as their owners and front office allow them to be and both have long histories of doing themselves in. They both have made some good changes but I'm not betting on either to make more than a 3 year run before they fall victim to their own idiocy.
