2016 draft could go down as Calgarys best draft year ever!
Book it! - K-man25
I was just looking up the 2016 draft.... what about this guy?
Stepan Falkovsky
Defense -- shoots L
Born Dec 18 1996 -- Minsk, Belarus
[20 yrs. ago]
Height 6.07 -- Weight 224
Had 21 goals in the Coast last year as a d man!! |

I was referring to being called an oilers fan.
Cape Breton, I was referring to me stirring the pot because it's July so we have something more to talk about than how much Sam Bennett is gonna sign for.
It's too early to be drunk, bud. - Ol_Boy_Wop
Want to stir the pot?
Would anyone trade Sam Bennett for Nino straight across? |
|
|
|
Actually they do.
Flames have a better top 4 D core as of right now but that's it. - LordHumungous
D is pretty important...and it is miles better and deeper with Stone as #5
at forward Edmonton might have a better top end thanks to a lottery ball but Calgary has more depth IMO
its put up or shut up time though, Oilers have had one good season in a decade where 25% of their games were against teams that played the night before

Nino might fit with us, but I don't think he'll help us win playoff games as much as Bennett would. Let's see what Bennett actually is before we think about trading him. |

Well, hopefully he doesn't turn out to be an elite, top-pairing dman. We didn't offer him a contract- the Kings signed him as a free agent
https://www.nhl.com/kings...ry-level-deal/c-290253554
Anyone know why we didn't offer him a contract? He's 6'7 and had a decent year offensively in the ECHL. Seems like a no-brainer to at least take a flyer on him...
Edit:

This broke it down pretty well. I guess it was no big deal Still, I don't like giving up on a kid that's 6'7 too early. Never know who's going to be a late bloomer when they get used to playing with their size... |

Meh, I think thats less of a factor than most pundits say it is. There are two clear factors that will determine the Oilers success this year. Talbot and McDavid.
Talbot made the timely saves we didn't get last year. Had Elliott played to that level, who knows. If Talbot can equal his play from last year and McDavid stays healthy, The Oil will play confident and have success.
Overall I like Calgary's roster more than the Oil, individual players aside... To me Talbot is the key followed by McDavid staying healthy. For us Smith/Lack need to be what they are capable of and anything is possible. If we get goaltending like we did last year... |

Maybe I am nit picking but I think the back up we traded them will depend Talbots fait. I can see them riding Talbot hard in the first half of the year and if the backup does not step up and win some games Talbot could get tired.
That said he did not get tired last year and played lots of games so my theory has holes.
But also need to see how Nurse and Benning do, if they progress will make their D a lot better.
Looking forward to this season! |

Hornqvist, Pouliot, 1st for Bennett! Flames fans hear me out!
Hornqvist
-Flames need a top RW
-Burke and the Flames org seem to love a playing style like Hornqvist as do I.
-I think would be a perfect fit with Johnny and monny on top line and net front on PP
Pouliot
-hasn't lived up to potential but still young and has never really been given a chance
-Flames have 1 of the best d core in the league and I think he would fit perfectly into 6th dman to ease him in
1st
-gets back a 1st from hamonic trade or can be used as trade bait at deadline (pens always seem to use there's late or not to get a piece that helps a lot for playoffs)
Bennett
-You know what Bennett brings so not much to explain here your thoughts are your thoughts. I see him as a skilled offensive player with defensive liabilities with lots of upside but hasn't developed as quickly as hoped.
Summary
-Hornqvist only has a year left but an extension could be talked about before the trade and can be signed before or the minute after the trade. 30 years old but has shown he isn't slowing down and still grinds every shift. I think Hornqvist would bring much more to help the Flames over the next couple seasons then Bennett would as the Flames seem to be in a win now mode. (Smith and hamonic trades) couple players right in there prime for the next 3 or so years. Yes Bennet has upside and that's why I added pouliot and a 1st. I think the Flames would then be pretty complete everywhere in the lineup.
Pens clearly need a 3rd line center and I think Bennett would fill that as well.

Sounds like he didn't want to play as a #5-6 defenseman in the AHL next year and gave the old "I'll go home if you qualify me" threat. Now he'll get more opportunity with the Monarchs. Good on him. We don't need him. |

You're viewing Bennett a little oddly. He's very accountable defensively and has to take the next step offensively. Hornquist is the only peice that really helps us and he has quite a bit of mileage. Bennett is pretty badass and only 21.
No room for Pouliot to grow here either. |

It's just not juicy enough. The Flames have enough options at RW with JG and SM. Ferland, Foo, and even Bennett himself. I only see bennett getting traded in a 1 for 1 for a young big strong winger

Calgary's D (Top 5 - not 4 - include Stone in that group) are going to be a HUGE factor IMO - especially with a goalie like Smith who can be like another defenceman out there the way that he can move the puck. Check out the linked video - pretty good and thorough break down of what makes the Flames D so good.

If we won't trade Hanifin for Duchene, he's not being traded for Bennett.
Maybe Jake Bean if you guys can wait another year for a Dman. |

Don't think that would fly. I'm sure many teams would love to have Poiliot in their system but with the Flames he will probably get leap frogged pretty quick. It is going to be a fierce battle in camp for those #6 & 7 D positions between Kulak, Kylington, Andersson & Valimaki making noise noise about cracking the lineup. Not to mention Healey may surprise a few in camp. So the need for Poiliot doesn't give him the same trade value with us. Hornqvist for Bennett would be a bad return, the kid just turned 21 recently & many expect Tkachuk to be paired up with him next year & we are hoping for a breakout year from him. The 1st is too late as we expect your team to be at least 2nd round playoffs next year & probably top 4 seeded in the East. So sorry, we will have to pass on that offer. Now if you want Stajan, we may be able to accommodate you. |
