I wonder if it will cost more to lock up Zibby long term than what he asked. Brassard asked for 4.85mm in arbitration before the Rangers locked him up to a 5x5 deal.

It would be ironic if the higher difference were the same exact $150,000 amount as in Brassard's case back then. Zib's earlier projected range was thought to be in between $4.5M to $5.5M. That extra $0.15M when added to Zib's $5.35M asking price, equals that $5.5M maximum range.
My opinion here during this past week was that the term length was the holdup, as Brooks later himself had expressed. This would be due to Zib coming off his broken fibula injury, & possibly another undisclosed health issue in relation to it, despite him playing well & appearing to be 100% healthy in the end after his return. With the Rangers offering $400,000 less than his expected minimum range, the money also seems now to be an issue as well, even though the difference between the two parties' is only $1.25M annually, to come up with a compromised agreement.
