With the market really slowing down is there any ufa you guys would be looking to bring in?
- Tfaehner

Still think Despres, if he can pass a physical, would be a nice add.

What's up with Dalton Thrower? Wasn't he a big prospect a while back (and was he the guy who killed one of our prospects a while back?)?

Mike Fischer, if he'd take a one-year deal, would be a great 3/4C.

So, no.

Well yeah that was his number in St Louis and Calgary so I think it just put that by default.

Me thinks he goes back to #30 when he was with Ottawa

- Streit2ThePoint

Whatever number he wears he's gonna SUCK and the Flyers are gonna SUCK and Hextall SUCKS and Giroux SUCKS and Ghost SUCKED for like 60 games last year and the Phillies SUCK and Fultz is HURT and he SUCKS and Hakstol SUCKS and VDV SUCKS and Patrick is HURT so he's gonna SUCK and the Rangers SUCK and the Flyers SUCK EVERYTHING IS LITERALLY TERRIBLE

Sometimes just the sheer amount of draft picks also contributes to kids not being signed.
- nastyflyergirl

Perhaps. But they are only at 40 (41 when Patrick gets his ELC) out of 50 Standard Player Contracts. Doesn't matter this year though. Next year they'll have more room. Guys come in, guys go, but they are in good shape.

Like Ghoul's contract is over after this season, and then he's a RFA. Do they even qualify him? That's a spot for Twarynski right there. He's the kind of guy that could be used as a 4th liner on the Phantoms to start and not block others.

Only Flyers GMs are expected to hit on every pick, and then only by certain people.
- Doc_Sarcasm

Unfortunately the hockey operations of the Flyers doesn't know players and prospects as well as the resident experts on HB do.

Yes and no. When it began, sure, but by 2000, when Lindros was 27 it was still an issue. At some point, the player needs to tell his folks to stay out of it. I mean, JFC, you would think it would be embarrassing as hell for the player.
- BiggE

To be clear I said I hold them more accountable than Lindros. Which doesn't fully excuse him.

If a player plays in the NHL, even for one game, no matter what round the player is drafted, it is to be considered a smashing success for the GM, scouting department, fanbase, and entire organization.

Fair enough, IMO neither was a particularly good Captain and not on the same level as guys like Smith, Van Impe, and Giroux, let alone even on the same planet as Clarke and Poulin.
- BiggE

Just for clarification purposes, why is Giroux such a great Captain? I'm not saying he is a bad Captain but overall his "reign" is pretty undistinguishable.

Didn't say he was great, IMO that label is only for Poulin and Clarke. I do think that he's a better captain than Lindros or Richards though, but I rate him below Van Impe and Smith.

You're right you didn't say great, excuse me for that. I still don't see Giroux as being anything out of the ordinary as a captain for the most part. I think of plays like the hit in the Pittsburgh game and then scoring a goal. I wouldn't put him above Lindros or Richards.

It still kills me that Brind'Amour wasnt captain. He should never have played a single second of any hockey game for any team other than the Flyers after they brought him over from StL.

Fair enough. Honestly, after Clarke and Poulin there is such a huge drop off, it's almost not worth ranking anyone past them.

Not saying I disagree with you but that could be part of it. Possible too many similar players. no idea what played into their decision about Samuel Dove-McFalls. will say look at Hextall's drafts in comparison to Holmgren's in both quantity and quality. talk about a turn for the better

Myers intrigues me because he did have a very solid camp last year. And he plays an good offensive game like Sanheim but also brings a little more physicality on the defensive end.

Can you ever remember a time the Flyers had this good of a problem to have. Too many good prospects to even pick from.

- J35Bacher

I am personally not expecting Myers to be a big point producer as a pro. Good two-way guy with puck-moving upside, yes. But he doesn't have Sanheim's offensive instincts to the ssame degree.

There is no way that any of Sanheim, Ghost, Provorov, Morin, or Hagg should ever be a consistent healthy scratch. If they're good enough to all make the NHL, you accept the growing pains and make AMac your 7th.
- jmatchett383

As much as I would love to get Amac off the top pair, it's not going to happen this next season. Hextall pretty much signed MacDonald and to put a guy with a 5 mil cap hit as a 7th would make him look foolish and a huge waste of cap space. Amac is going to be on the top pairing for awhile, time to accept it

If they were worried about looking foolish I don't think they would've stuck him in the AHL for almost a full year.

Hextall waved him in 2015, so he's not going to be worried about him being #7 in 2017 if that's what's best for the team.
