Having 2 top 100 picks not signed in consecutive years looks bad, any way you cut it, and a GM does not like it, especially the standard the Flyers hold themselves too. They drafted him for whatever reason that high, had him ranked over all these other kids in the system, so they'll probably sign him for the same reason. It's not like they can't spare a contract; plus they've done a good job staggering a lot of college/foreign kids to hold off on contracts. I would be surprised if Twar isn't signed. And Hextall signed Goulbourne, who to me is a worse prospect than DMF. . - Mononoke
I think you left him off your list...he is easily top 3 |

People thought so on draft day. I do think, again, that Twar is a bit better than DMF and he could play a role.
A difference between Twar and DMF is that DMF is playing his OA (over age) season next year -- the Flyers lost his rights in the process. Twarynski is playing his OA season next year, while we still have his rights, due to his early birthday. So, he has to be in the pro ranks season after. - Mononoke
So they missed on those 2 guys. They have also seemed to hit on guys like:
109 4 Connor Bunnaman C Kitchener Rangers [OHL] 139 5 Linus Hogberg D Vaxjo Jrs (Sweden)
169 6 Tanner Laczynski C Lincoln Stars [USHL]
172 6 Anthony Salinitri C Sarnia Sting [OHL]
199 7 David Bernhardt
All late round picks. You can't sign guys because of optics. You say it didn't work out, for whatever reason and move on. |

2 reasons
Richards never ducked the media after being swept in the finals
And
Richards mommy and daddy never tried to insert themselves into the teams interactions with their son. - BiggE
Yes, but Richards did openly stop talking to the media after the Lupul trade, and he did openly not participate, as a leader, in Lavy's Dry Island. He was late to fan functions and, for better or worse, was a huge womanizer.
To me, when you take both of their tenures here, Lindros is better than at least Richards. |

Sorry for you sorrow, it did make me feel good though.
Hope they sign the Russian kid, why not, his contract can slide if needed and he is showing some strong offensive abilities according to the reports.
BTW: That video was hilarious!
Anyone have thoughts on the recent LV signings?
Also, if Sanheim makes the club is it?:
Provy/Ghost
Gudas/Sanheim
Amac/Morin OR Hagg
Manning as the 7th - coffee junkie
There is no way that any of Sanheim, Ghost, Provorov, Morin, or Hagg should ever be a consistent healthy scratch. If they're good enough to all make the NHL, you accept the growing pains and make AMac your 7th. |

Agree.
If they are there they need to play or they should just stay in AHL playing major minutes. |

I'd love for it to happen even it's Myers instead of one of Sanheim/Morin/Hagg. Could you see Pierre McGuire rambling on about the Flyers D? Oh wait he can't say they played at "Insert Middle of Nowhere" State that is only known for Hockey. |

Sometimes just the sheer amount of draft picks also contributes to kids not being signed.

Myers intrigues me because he did have a very solid camp last year. And he plays an good offensive game like Sanheim but also brings a little more physicality on the defensive end.
Can you ever remember a time the Flyers had this good of a problem to have. Too many good prospects to even pick from. |

Calder cup winning Phantoms during the lockout
And it's great to sit here seeing it happen. Yes some kids will miss but still to have the hope and fresh outlook we have when you look at the Defense and Goalie prospects is very enjoyable.
They can probably miss on half these kids and the roster will still be turned over a lot from 2 years ago in the next 2 years. |

I didn't say they'd sign him exclusively for optics, or that it would even be the primary motivator. I went into more detail than that. They liked him 1 year ago. Liked him more than all those players. So, what, they don't like him now? I don't know what they expected, if not. Because he's developed how anyone who watched Sanheim in Calgary expected him to develop......not much.
You still need organizational depth in the AHL and potential 4th liners. And Twar can be a speedy grinder with size. It's as much about telling yourself that you liked this guy for x, y, and z reasons, and that you think he still has potential and can be a good player. GMs don't like not signing high picks because it's admitting mistake. But we're not talking about a player who looks like a bust here; he could still be an NHLer. And again, a big part of the DMF thing was that they didn't want to offer him anything better than an AHL deal and he probably was best off returning for an OA year, which was not an option. Twarynski is not in that situation. |

Yes and no. When it began, sure, but by 2000, when Lindros was 27 it was still an issue. At some point, the player needs to tell his folks to stay out of it. I mean, JFC, you would think it would be embarrassing as hell for the player.

Fair enough, IMO neither was a particularly good Captain and not on the same level as guys like Smith, Van Impe, and Giroux, let alone even on the same planet as Clarke and Poulin.

Not saying you're wrong, but are Bunnaman, Hogberg, Salinitri, and Bernhardt reaaallllyyy projected to be decent players for the Flyers? I know not everyone is going to be a Lindblom, but tbh these guys don't seem like "hits" to me.

Well yeah that was his number in St Louis and Calgary so I think it just put that by default.
Me thinks he goes back to #30 when he was with Ottawa |
