Now as far as that tweet and people not seeing the difference in #2 or #3, well, I am gonna say Simmons is missing understanding of a part of the new wording, and that was even if Hossa was traded, that when he retired in the future, even with a new team, the CAP hit didn't transfer along with the re-capture.
Is anyone else remembering this?

- wiz1901

Yes, if Hossa retires (versus staying on LTIR until his contract runs out) - then the Hawks are liable for the recapture penalty regardless if Hossa is still on the Hawks or some other team.

But, I thought the idea was that Hossa would stay on LTIR for the next 4 years to run out his contract so the Hawks don't have to eat the recapture penalty. Essentially Hossa get's his salary ($1M) for each of the next 4 years and the team Hossa is on has to pay the $1M but has no impact on their cap.

To me, the legitimacy of this comes down to whether or not Hossa is legitimately injured to the point he can't play. If his playing days are over because of this condition then the Hawks catch a break and there should be nothing the league can do about it. If, on the other hand Hossa can get better and can come back and play, then the Hawks should be bound by his contract.

Just had a nightmarish flashback to 2011 Game 7 OT in Vancouver....

HOW DID YOU MISS THAT SHARPIE!?!?!

- EnzoD

Man if Sharp scored on that would have been almost the equivalent of the Hawks winning the Cup

Had Sharp scored that goal, the city of Vancouver would cease to exist today.

He has a point Mr. R! Jonathan Toews is 29, not 33 and he is being paid for those "intangible" assets like PK and net front presence as we all know he is NOT a Point-Per-Game player. Never has been, and never will be. So, if Toews needs to be sheltered like 38 year old Hossa was this year, the Hawks are in serious trouble.
- EnzoD

I said give him a break from the PK, not PP. He ain't standing in getting hacked n whacked on the PK like he would on the PP.

No Toews never has been a point a game player and never will but he ain't a back to back 58 point guy either. Those PK minutes are tough on your legs and it's reasonable to think if you took those hard minutes away from his legs he'd be more effective offensively.

But it won't happen cuz Toews is the only man in the organIzation that can win a draw and as I just looked it up he only averaged 1:15 PK TOI last year!! They already tried what I was thinking and it didn't work. Plus Freddy Kruger is gone so I'm guessing Toews will play at least the 1:15 per game he did last year if only to win a draw.

Check out how Q was sheltering/resting Toews leading up to the playoffs last year on the kill. https://leftwinglock.com/...ndex.php?playerid=8473604

He's not entirely wrong.

Toews is NOT in his prime anymore, though. That's around 26. He's in that "plateau before the fall" stage that is seemingly indefinite.

But he SHOULD be on the PK, and probably will log heavier minutes now that Kruger is gone.

I mean, if he can't be a PK guy, and you don't want him to go to where he is gonna get beat up, what the hell are you paying him for? Because $10.5 million is a (frank) of a lot of money for a 60 point C that doesn't kill penalties.

- BINGO!

You ain't getting beat up on the kill, man. You are in a 45-60 second skier squat when not using short bursts to hunt a pack. It's an all out use of oxygen and blood to your legs. .........Save the guys legs for the other end is my point.

But if a Hawk fan got on and said "what, the Hawk PK is as passive as an infant child and is like a walk in the park", I'd have no comeback.

Interesting. Kid is 26 and the last two yrs after his 72 point year he put up 38 and 45 points! Johnson is a gamer though man. Remember he played the Finals Series vs the Hawks with a broken wrist. ... With 38 and 45 points the last two years TB is showing faith in the kid. Glad this tough little SOB got paid.

How'd Stevie Y do? 8.6 mil in space left and only Palat to sign now. Was proactive on Drouin dealing that cap problem to be and got a blue chipper in Sergachev back.

Scroll up a bit my friend.
My point exactly.
Q is gonna Q.
As much as he's won all those games in his career, as much as he's won 3 CUPS here.
Stubborn bastage.
Evidently, Mike Sullivan =>Q and Mike was in the Hawks system.
Figured out a way to use a guy/roster and win back-to-backs.

No matter what, he'll always have that over Q because I think Q retires or gets axed/pushed upstairs before there's any chance of a back-to-back for him. IMO, a near-impossible feat achieved by Sullivan.

- savvyone-1

Savvy, life is short. Go glass half full and see what Q did with the rookies last year, his boy Kitchen is gone and the Hawks are out of cap hell for 15-20 minutes. ...... I'm a Daley guy and posted numerous times before and after the Hawks moved him that I liked Daley yesterday, today and will tomorrow. If anything I'm gonna think Q learned about the hard cap world that year and has evolved.

And I really do think some of the organIzational power shifted from Q to StanBow just because of the Daley "situation". So long term it may have been for the best despite the short term suffering that ole Rocky missed out on a few more home playoff dates due to the 1st round exit. Can't say for sure but reasonable to think the Hawks had a better chance in Game 7 v STL with Daley than with Rundblad/Gus. They win Rocky gets a minimum 2 more home playoff gates.

Nice bridge deal for a nice player in Radek Faska, 2.2 per for 3 yrs. 23 yr old kid is a tough as nails 3 zone player with some skill, size, a power center who will play the body, 2:00 TOI on the PK and as a 2nd yr guy is 48.5% at the dot lifetime.

Dallas now just 700k under the cap with 23 signed.

Rico, your 1st sentence is very true, wife just buried a friend at 62 with a rare form of melanoma and have other examples like I'm sure you and others here do.

One boy gone, another loaded in the chamber. That's the only problem I see. Q's connections are the only ones (apparently) he will accept. While all of us hope like hell Ulf adds some nasty to the Hawks play, will he be neutered in that regard as well? Guess only TWT.

Just seems to me that his set-in-stone ways have caused Stan to launch guys that shouldn't have been and brought in guys that served little purpose or were so close to being useful that those decisions ultimately were a detriment to the team and its success.

IDK Rico, did you see ONE change in approach during the 4 game sweep?
One?
I sure didn't.
And of course, it was over before we could blink.

Kempny brought in as a Hail Mary for the 4th game. But polished the bench/press box seating for quite a bit and certainly the 3 games before. Again, why?
I'm surely not saying Kempny WAS the answer and not skating him in the previous 3 games would have changed anything. How are we to know? He sat so much during the regular season as well. Not without warts but how is a guy with some evident physical skills going to be better, be a better teammate and learn the system?

That's just the 1 example. And why you probably couldn't blame Crawford for the sweep, I will say turning his back on the puck/play resulting in a goal really pissed me off. (Bad) Goals given up at the wrong time are known to turn series and seasons around. IMO, that was one. Backbreaker.

Why not give Darling a shot to at least try and lift/carry the team?
Some of this stuff goes beyond reason.

This is what I mean. Life really is short. Sorry for your loss..........

No doubt Q can drive a fan nuts but that can be said of any coach. Never was in love with his juggling but the guy was winning cups. And yeah man watching teams line 4 across their blueline and have players repeatedly skate into that is unbearable. The passive play by Dmen in the crease makes you wanna cry. The passive PK makes you wanna bust the tv. The predictable PP sucks.

All that said he wins cups. Couple more 1st round exits and maybe we see a change?

Q has been exposed as the Dusty Baker of hockey. With a bench full of seasoned NHL talent, his Bozoputer makes him look like a genius, until he burns out his core guys.

When faced with a much thinner bench, and an aging core, not so much. So he rejects/sits those SB brings in (Weise, Fleischmann, Daley, Kempny), Bozoputers the wrong guys (2/7/57) as examples that come prominently to mind. This year, the FO nukes Kitchen, 72, 4 and 57, and he leaves the coaches meeting at the draft.

If he is a winning coach, he can manage a thinner, younger bench and continue winning. Until that happens, I'll reserve my optimism. Hard not to feel like this team is not heading for a coaching change before Turkey Day.

There has to be a better analogy than that. First of all, I don't think a team's ever won anything with Dusty managing. Second other than possibly this last playoff vs the Preds, you can hardly accuse Q of dozing off in the postseason and failing to make changes when needed.

Comparing him to Dusty is beyond harsh.

TJ missed almost 20 games in both those seasons so his PPG is still fairly good. Stevie Y has done a great job and if not for bad injury luck to key players TBL could've made some noise in the East this past Spring.
