I agree. Metro area teams should have learned after the Icelanders handed out Humpty that mammoth (at the time) contract; only to watch him play only a handful of games due to injury after signing the deal...and still get paid.
You're in your early/mid 20's? Ok...6+ year deal. 30 or over? 4-5 years max (which ever expires when the player hits 35 or so). Players like Ricci, Brind'Amour, Chelios, are players you really won't see play into their late 30's to 40's and still be as productive in today's NHL. Even Jagr has had injuries that hampered seasons past.

He won't be traded this season, but if by next season they feel as though a 4-5 year deal can't be made I could see him traded. He's had his share of injures already, shoulder, head, foot etc. lots of miles on that body, not holding that against him, but no way can you give him a 7-8 year deal.
