But I don't think 23 year old Galchenyuk has the same value as a 1 year left on his contract JVR either.

Oh and Murray, injuries aside, is still better than Luke Schenn, that's just mean.

I would think so, but now that the Leafs have five full lines of NHL players and a wealth of scoring, they are in a decent position to pick up one or two d-man and maybe a pick or two. I think that the Leafs will extend JVR to a good team contract. He can be traded for much more value if he is under a reasonable contract. It makes sense that Marleau replaces Hyman on Matthews line. On a line of Matthews/Marleau/Nylander, not a huge stretch to see 70 points out of Marleau. If he remains healthy, he would be playing with better linemates than any time in his career.

For those whining about speed and age get over it already.. the Leafs are still among the top 10 youngest and fasted in the League. Imo top 5 in youth and speed.

Agree with you completely. Great move. I have no issues with the $$ or term. Saved A LOT on the 3rd-4th line fillers and upgraded the top 6 with quality, experience, production and durability. I hope they follow the Pitts model, keep JVR and have a deadly top 2-3 forward lines and above average goal tending.
