Trade JVR for a D. Go for it. You know that's the plan.
- storm88

I'm think jvr for demers. Add where you will. But I don't feel like this is a win now move by any means. Just good asset management. Probably could afford to keep jvr long term so get a valuable asset for him. Give the team a chance to win short term while they let the young guys develope could also be bozak going as Marleau also plays center I just don't think we'll be able to get a top 5 d for him. Maybe that's not the plan who knows.

Ya I don't think jvr is going to Florida! Mind you Tallon scouted him in December of 2014? I think it was? Jvr was not on the market at the time but he was interested! In saying that Florida is looking to dump salery and maybe if the leafs were to retain and Florida adds? Idk ,but the trade for demers will be for picks and or prospects imo! Which would work well if then they could ship jvr +1st lottery protected, +picks/prospects? And if it's a true number 2? Then possibly add bracco, or kappy, and even possibly Neilson? It will cost a boat load! And it would be Vatanen imo! Perfer Manson/dumba! but I doubt their available! So at the beginning of the offseason they needed 3 dmen and we got one! Hainsey a 6 guy! They still need a number 2! And 4! A number 2 to play with Reilly, a number 4 to play with zaitsev, and Gardner at 5 with Hainsey at 6! If demers came in then he could be a great number 4! To play with zaitsev! Then two down and a number 2 dman to go! .. did you frankers get all that? If not then your more franked then me! and I'm franking franked!

Gardiner might be a 5 on a cup team but he's a 3 on the leafs. No way they get a top pairing right shot D and top 4 left shot dman better than Gardiner without selling the whole team but can't fault you for your optimism.

also dumba and vantanen are both 4's at best. Manson isn't your typical top pair dman but i think he can play a top pair shut down role. Either way none of those guy are available.

Gardiner is a solid 3-4 on most teams. Only teams that might not be the case are Anaheim, Nashville, Calgary, Columbus (Hes probably better than Murray) and maybe Winnipeg (Trouba, Buff, Enstrom and Myers is pretty deep plus Morrissey/Kulikov)

I'm not sure what your definition of top pairing is. There are like 10 Dman who are of the caliber in the whole league I assume you're referring to. Many of the others are simply not that elite and are still effectively Top 2 guys.

What's the general consensus on the Marleau deal?

Third year might be iffy.

The Price is right, eh?

Best goalie, hands down, but that is a lot of dough for a goalchie as our good friend (poop I forget his name) would say.

Anyone remember that guy? Got an extended vacation from Dozzer a month or two back?

Well it's alot of money for probably a year too long....

But he wouldn't have come to Toronto for less I presume.

It makes the Leafs a better team, even if he keeps slowing down.

Unless he enters wheelchair category.

The third year is probably going to be locked out.

Plus most of the money is paid by July 1st of that year, so he could be a paper transaction to the Island if his play has dropped off dramatically by then

Yeah, that would be Kaptaan (or krapstaain if you prefer).

And yeah, that Price contract... No doubt he's worth it now, but when he's 37....?

Can't recall who you're talking about.

As for Price's contract... god.... it IS alot of money, at least 1M more per year than I had hoped.

This being said, when you consider all the factors thrown in: Quebec Taxes, handling Price as an asset you can't lose for nothing or trade for a fraction of his actual worth next season and his importance to the team.... it's pretty much what he's worth.

So now the Habs will need to work around that contract, it's a challenge but I never thought overpaying for superstar players was the problem, it's the 4M for a third liner contracts that kills you (YES I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU, ANDREW SHAW!).

And for what it's worth, I'm glad to know that for the next 8 years, the Habs won't be an easy team to beat... if only because beating Price, in itself, is never easy.

The structure of the deal makes the third year look kind of circumventy. On the other hand he is a durable player. There's no saying he can't contribute for three more years anyway. I'm not worried about three year deals as much as seven or eight year ones.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with Matthews and Nylander in a big way.

What I don't like, from the Leafs point of view, is that, so far, they still haven't taken care of their most glaring need on defense and have invested considerable money in another forward.

You gotta think a trade is bound to happen.
