Johansen had 24 G and 34 A for 58 points last year. Very good pickup for the Devils for only a 2nd and 3rd.

So the Devils got slightly better while the Caps got worse, like the deal a lot

Just after I made my post, I saw the update with the Caps/Devils trade. This still doesn't get the Caps out of the pickle they find themselves in.
Washington now has approx. $9.2 million in cap space after trade, BUT they only have 14 players signed for team! 8 forwards, 5 defensemen, 1 goalie
They are going to need at least 5 more forwards, 2 d-men and a backup goalie!
1 of those forwards ( unsigned ) is Burakovsky. The math just doesnt work in their favor, so a trade or creative offer sheet would be timely.

Patrick division (Current Metro ) had 6 teams so 2 missed the playoffs, top 4 made it, but the other divisions all had only 5 teams so just the last place team missed the playoffs. Teams would be15-20 games under 500 & make it, it was a joke.

Gotta say, as a rangers fan, it's been awesome watching the Capitals' offseason. Man did they just cripple themselves with some of these contacts for the next decade.
