Oh, you're not wrong. I just see a lot of trades I don't fully understand, so I hope there's a way.
Maybe some club will adopt a style that calls for a slow, vision-impaired, multi-concussed D-man!
...oh wait, Detroit already signed McI!!!! - Tonybere

Will they be Colorado bad this year? Good news for Schneider is he could be saved and dealt - KreiderBomb
Right now if I had to guess Vancouver and NJ are a two horse race for the bottom of the league. |

I know everyone hates Staal, and I would love him moved...but this year could be huge for the Rangers.
Sheltering Staal on the 3rd pair, may help his game a bit. Playing less minutes against less talented players. Maybe it will allow him to improve some value around the league. Help him gain some confidence.
Might be smart to hold onto him and let him try to improve |

For one more year with the Rangers having cap space to allow it, I am willing to try it out |

Well, obviously that's been the problem with him. Move him to C and he'll flourish! - WineryDog
I'd love Rangers to sign Yakupov. He's not a center, but adds to forward depth and allows Miller, who is a center, to move back to natural position. Yakupov is still young and would be a low risk, high reward signing. Would be good addition to our high tempo offense. Besides Anderson, we have Nieves and Lettieri that will be battling for roster spot as a center. We're in good shape even if we don't add. Team now is definitely better than when season ended. We have all season to tweak if necessary |

I think Holden will be benched for Deangelo...at least I hope Deangelo shows he should play over him.
I think Holden is used in a package for a top 9 center eventually |

Vancouver might hang around for awhile, although I just looked at their schedule and games they have 4 games against AZ and Vegas after the trade deadline.
I would agree that they'll be in lottery mode and will probably rent out the Sedins for picks/prospects at the deadline. |

That's the only reason Cyclops is still here.
I hope you're right and he gets sheltered minutes, no way he is a 1st or 2nd pair guy anymore. You can practically see the frustration on his face during games. |

Yea there are clearly 4 guys better than him on the depth chart now, that wasn't the case last year all season.
And worst case if someone got hurt, he has the ability to log minutes at least |

From one of my blogs in June on G and Staal:
"If either of the two is bought out, the team would carry half the cap hit in dead space for twice the length of their contract. That means if they buy out Girardi, the Rangers would have $2.75 million of dead space for the next six seasons. If Staal is the one bought out, they would have $2.85 million of dead space over the next eight years."
It's the eight years that is the major kicker and would be $2.1 mil each of the next two years, $3.1 the next year, $3.9 mil in year 4, and $1.4 mil each of the following four years. |

Here are the numbers if they wait a year. Shows there is really no reason to buy him out before next summer.
2018-19 $2,055,556
2019-20 $3,055,556
2020-21 $3,855,556
2021-22 $1,355,556
2022-23 $1,355,556
2023-24 $1,355,556 |

It's not really that much worse, and I would've felt more comfortable with G playing 12-14 minutes on the 3rd pair than Staal... Just my opinion.
Staal's buyout would've been a 17.2M cap hit, spread out over 8 years.
G's buyout cost 13.1M against the cap, over 6 years.
The difference is not as big as most seems to think... |

Carey Price, eight-year extension, $10.5 mil AAV. Is he worth $2 mil more per year than Lundqvist? |

Here is G buyout:
In 2017-18: $2.61M, 18-19: $3.61M, 19-20: $3.61M, 20-21: $1.11M, 21-22: $1.11M and 22-23: $1.11M |

Price is a great goalie, prob would have gotten that on the open market. But it is really tough to build a championship team with the goalie taking up that much of the cap. Rangers are learning haha |

$69,000,000.00 $77,000,000.00
$8,500,000.00 $10,500,000.00
12.32% 13.64%
Hank's deal was 12.32% of the cap when he signed it. Assuming a 77m cap next year, Price is at 13.64%. That's a hefty sum, but Montreal was really in the same spot as the NYR's. They simply couldn't let the player go. |

Price turns 30 next month and this extension takes effect next summer when he's 31 already so they'll be paying him 10.5mm a year until he's 39 |
