If Zib would have been healthy last year he tops 50-55 points (prorated).
I understand that's not 1C production, but he's still only 24, and is coming into his prime.
Zib's 4-7=11 PP points can only get better as well with more power play time, and Shattenkirk quarterbacking it.
Hayes PP numbers should increase with more time as well, (1-6=7 PP points).
Hayes barely saw the PP last year. - puckhead17
I'm a big fan of Zibanejad, just think we need a true top flight #1 |

I had included Kampfer salary in the total, taking that out, makes it about $11.25 mil - airjan23
Does 5 years @ $5m per sound realistic for Zib?
Would it make sense to do another bridge at the risk he outplays it & can get more? |

I'm a big enough Zib fan I'd give him 7 years if we could get the $ right. |

I agree, but I don't want to do that at the expense of weakening another position.
I hang on the hope that he, and Kreider increase their production this year. |

Gotcha. Makes sense.
How Gorton deals with Mika this year, and Hayes, Miller, Vesey, and Skjei next year will be really interesting. |

I think the big increase will come from Buch. The Kreids-Zibby-Buch line could easily hit 150 points this year, maybe 175 if everyone is healthy. That'd be nice. |

You think they would go that route? I don't think the GM wants anymore of those crazy terms. I will say this, management has had a way with getting guys to sign much less than their market value for a while now.
McD, Zucc, Shatt, even Kreider could have possibly used market value comparable signings to try and get more, but he didn't. A lot of signings are for potential, not what they have done already.
I'm really interested to see what Mika signs for, but I'm not in favor of another bridge.
edit looking back I think Kreider got the norm. |

I'm fine with 7 years for a 24 year old, just don't give him a NTC. |

I'm hoping for along the lines of 5 years, @ $4.75m per, we will see.
Separate note, I buy out Staal next season, I know thats more dead $, but he & G's buyout pay for another top player. |

I would go five years, given his age and upside, absolutely. Maybe even longer, I prefer avoiding a bridge deal. |

Staal has a 15 team list next year correct? Add something and dump him rather than buy him out. |

Tough to find comparables. Schenn got 4 for 20.5. Everyone else in his age bracket got bigger contracts at a younger age.
I almost think the Orlov deal (not comparable position, just age and potential) of 6 years, 30.6 makes the most sense.
If Gorton can pull off another Kreider deal of 4 for 4.65 per, I might be comfortable with that only because it will end when Hank's deal does, but would prefer 6 years at 500k more. |

Just throwing a name out there but how about Ricard Rakell. The Ducks have some center depth. He's tied up for years at a reasonable rate. Probably would center around a guy like a Miller. - Pete V
With all due respect - RR isn't going anywhere for some time maybe ever - young, big, gifted Centers that score 32 G and can play wing with a steal of a contract don't get traded at least not by Murray - and it would leave the Ducks with a huge hole that they cannot fill in house - |

Nice job, Jan. Thanks for the tireless work.
I am still a little giddy! 4 years!! Never imagined the signing would end up like it did.
For those talking about trading McD, it hasn't even been 24 hours since we got the D line up we want!! Settle down. Let's play some hockey before we decide there's a need to tinker!
I don't see why Zib can't have a shot at being our 1C. With a summer of training and strengthening his leg, the is no real reason to think we'll see less production than what he showed before his injury. And if either Boo or Andersson can step up for the 4C role, that leaves us one centre away from a complete and fairly impressive lineup. I'd like to see Gorton take a run at Yakapov for the 3C. Shouldn't be too much risk involved and could be a whole lot of upside.

I hope they find a way to trade him. What if we ate $2-2.5M of his salary? I know it's a lot, but a buyout would have about the same dead cap hit, but for twice as long. |

I agree, maybe a better way to go, but he didn't look very good in playoffs last year. Not sure who would want him?
Then again G to TB. |

He'd have to have a heck of a bounce back year for anyone to even consider trading for him. I'd love it, but just don't see it.
Also have to figure Gorton offered Girardi at half salary and there were (presumably) no takers. G was waaaay better than Staal at the end of last year. Just my 2 cents. |
