if we are truely rebuilding on the fly, i think Yak and Grigorenko should be 2 players we focus on. 2 younger wingers that have show some promise in the past should be given a chance. I would much rather see those 2 playing than bring in a veteran winger.
also wouldnt mind a look at Jokipakka - good size. IDK much about his game but he is another young UFA. |

I wouldn't mind giving Yakupov a shot, but, not expecting much |

really if Sean Day has a chance to make this time out of camp, and can play the right side, it kind of changes things a bit |

Still would be kind of nervous with Smith(if signed), DeAngelo, Day, Holden as the right side though. |

it's a weird spot, because signing another vet defenseman, especially if it's a long term deal, blocks the way for these guys. Gotta include Pionk too in this. |

there will be growing pains but the potential to have a top flight Dcore in the next year or 2 is a big bright spot. if Day makes the team, that would be 3 out of 6 of our starters under 24, and 2 under 22. that is VERY young for defense.
I am actually leaning towards only signing Smith OR Shatty. not both. |

Oh yeah, for sure. I just think if we agree its a good thing, I wouldn't expect too much from that right side this year. Nobody flying off the handle... |

I agree with your last sentence. I get the feeling they're keeping Smith on the hook in case they don't get Shattenkirk. If they sign both, they could have trouble with the cap in 18-19 and 19-20. |

like Downeaster said this morning, Nash's cap hit comes off next summer
if they don't blow big bucks now, they really could be a monster next summer in the UFA game, especially if they also manage to get rid of Staal, trade or buyout
