Here is my opinion, if the Rangers don't do something else at the center ice position, it directly effects whether they should sign Shattenkirk. Because let's be honest, they have no chance with just Zib and Hayes at center, so if you don't address that position, why sign Shattenkirk if you think he only has 3-4 good years left on a 7 year type contract. You would be effectively wasting one of those years next year. |

Would having Zib & Hayes at 1-2, be as similar to say Stepan, and Dubinsky? |

You can add Smith to this. If you can't figure out the center position, might as well let the kids gain some experience and make some splashes next year if needed. |

I'd be thrilled with 7 years $38 mil for Shatty and 5 years $25 for Zib - KreiderBomb
Yandle got 6.35 for 7 years last year. cap is going up and people seem to all consider shattenkirk is better. doubt he signs for anything less than 6.5 and even then im skeptical |

good points, the more one thinks about it.
There may be a difference, (hoping), in playing here, than for that idiot Florida team.
They seem to make a few bad moves a year. |

Agreed, with all the young talent coming I want some open spots
im not so sure I even want Smith tbh..
Loved the snarl he brought but I think we all get caught up in that a little
if hes anymore expensive than 4-4.5 and more than 3-4 years im out

I think it is very hard to say what the Rangers should do, because I am not quite sure of the direction. Are they trying to compete this year or not? If they aren't, I don't want Shattenkirk. If they are, I am not in love with him, but I would understand signing him.

I feel like any given year the top name on the market is bound to disappoint cause honestly they wouldnt be available on the open market if that wasnt the case |

Sometimes yeah.
Depends on the where most of the other teams are structure wise too.
Washington essentially gave Oshie Shatts $.
I can't see that signing working out very well, still shocked at that.
The #1 UFA forward gets that? and he's already 30?
Shatt would have to really want to be here. |
