That was my thought. Also would not hurt to have Jumbo Joe showing Hayes how to properly use his body and also get better at draws.

Having Zib, Hayes, thorton, and Nieves as your 4 Centers would be pretty good. If you put Grabs or Kreids on Joe's line He could do some serious damage. When he has the puck he is an elite play maker. at this stage, his problem is that he is too slow to get the puck. throw some speed on his line and watch out.

Do Thornton with Zuccarello and Kreider/Nash. Maybe swap Zucc with a player that has a more shoot first mentality.

Maybe have to try: Kreider - Thornton - Nash. Lot's of size and two fast wingers with an elite passer.

if the Rangers did sign Thornton for 1 year and the team goes south this year, he could fetch something at the deadline.

3 years would be insanity

- jimbo83

He kinda fits in with the rebuilding on the fly where you just fill a roster spot where needed, then see ya when a kid is ready

Nash could finally get traded then too, that would be the big ole titties for me

what kind of contract does Zib get? I'd rather not back in a corner with another "show me" short term deal.

anything longer than 4 years for anything lower than $5M per would work for me. Ideally 6-8 years for $4.5M - similar to Kreids but longer term.

I agree with Matt that he is slow, so him with krieder wouldn't be the best idea imo. My thinking is he's very similar to Stepan in a lot of ways and Nash and him had some pretty good success together. So jumbo being similar and a friend of Nash, it just makes a lot of sense to me

Would you be willing to put up with that if he's the 3C and puts up the same amount of points as he did last year?

Again this is all based on a 1-year deal. Nothing more

edit: Zib - Hayes - Thornton - Boo/Andersen/XYZ

- Bean_Dip

Sure if its a 1 year deal. But from all reports he isn't doing that.

always loved his game in Ottawa.
size, speed, big shot. i think he's a 70+ point player so close to breaking out.

a lineup of the below looks pretty good to me:

Kreid - Zib - Buch
JT - Hayes - Grabs
Nash - Jumbo - Zucc
Vesey - Boo - Fast
(lots of toys for AV to play with here)

McD - Smith
Staal - ADA
Skjei - Day
Holden

get him signed to a decent long term deal before he breaks out, or a lower cost bridge. It's a huge decision

I dont understand when it was that skating soley determined how a good a player was anymore..I don't get it

He'd a led the rangers in assists last year, just saying

I don't understand how you hate Nash so much when I would take him 10 out of 10 times over Thornton.

I dont hate him I've just always expected more in the playoffs. Again he had an OT winner on his stick and nada

6 years $34.8m for Zib, (no other #1 center on the team)

Here is my opinion on Thornton. If its a 1 year deal I would have to live with it. Still don't think he could keep up in AV's system. Would much rather try to get Hanzal.

ugh. i would really rather do 8X$42 If they can get him under $5M per that is a win!

Thorton on a 1 year prove it deal is a great signing. if he ends up stinking it up, we trade him and get an additional asset. the downside is not really there. if they sign him to a 3 year deal - that is a mistake.

I would rather have your offer as well, I don't know if they would want to do an 8 year term.

I think the only way they'd have a chance of getting Thornton to take a 1 year deal is to make it like 7 million

if Eric Staal could get a 3 year deal last summer, Thornton certainly can

Zib is only 23 so that makes him a UFA at 31. give him a modified NTC that kicks in at 27 or 28 and i think that gets it done.

we have the cap space. I would rather use it like that then to sign Shatty to $7M for 5+ years.

Its funny, this is the first time in a few years the rangers have had actual cap space - I just hope they dont blow it like they usually do.
