YESSSS!
I'm trolling around but let's be honest, the NCAA isn't known for being the best development league.
It's a gamble (like most drafted players) and the kid might end up playing in the NHL in the bottom 6. That wouldn't be a terrible thing. I just don't expect great things from him.
Only kid I see helping the Habs in a top 6 role is Ikonen. Time will tell if the 2017 draft was another abysmal year for our drafting department or if it's one of those 5 1st pick kind of year. - WaterBoy
I'm not sure if this message preface is ever really necessary |

My guess is that Poehling will play one last season in St.Cloud and then he'll play in Laval as a 19 year old if they think he's ready. - stinger67
At this point, maybe 2 years in college would be nice. If we're lucky Lefebvre won't be in Laval anymore by then. |

Well...at least they replenished their D prospect pool...since they can't draft decent defensemen they might as well pick tons of them hooping one will pan out. - BashCH
Not sure about their strategy of (mostly) picking up stay at home D.
Time will tell I guess.

Offensive defensemen were picked up pretty early...plus they had Mete last year who should be an interesting prospect.
EDIT : Also, the NHL trend nowadays is to have big, mobile D who can make a good 1st pass and defend well...pretty much what they got. |

The new NHL is about quick fast moving D's that can not only make a quick outlet pass but also carry the puck and put up points.
I'm afraid the Ds we picked up this year don't really match that.
Brannstrom is a new-age defender who is able to move the puck efficiently, join the rush and rack up points.

Hainsey, Cole and, to a lesser extent Schultz, don't really fill up that description.
Brannstrom and Liljegren were great prospects, with Liljegren being the biggest sleeper of the 1st round. Habs did well with Brooks and Ikonen, not so much with Poehling. As for the rounds 3-7, who cares, i mean really. |

Way before the Habs talked, I'm just glad the Habs didn't pick Timmins at 25th. |

Yeah well they picked up enough defense as it is...Plus you could see they really wanted a centerman with that first pick. |

Yeah, i know they were looking for a C, i just would have like MB to go for a better spot in order to grab one of Vilardi or Rasmussen. Poehling can still end up being a 2nd center but BPA at 25th were Tolvanen#Kostin IMO. |

Well, they had 2 second this year, think they also have 2 next year. Gallagher looks to be a moving piece as well...don't know the asking price, don't even know they really tried to go up. |

They probably did, but for a team that low on prospects, I think trading all your picks for another year is not really the way to go. I mean, every year you can say "Wish they traded up to get that guy"...but the reality is you can't always do it and it's not always the best option either to get rid of all your other picks. |
