Maybe but you don't have to keep Shatty for the whole contract. Rangers have been pretty good about moving people out while they still have some value. How's Stepan going to look in couple years?

This is what kills me with the Devils not signing big free agents. Yes, the better ones all get overpaid and too much term but while they're productive they're tradable assets.

Fluery is not a franchise goalie and Jordan Staal like all Staals highly overrated. But I do get your point.

but I guess it would depend on your definition of a franchise goalie. For me.. being with a team for 14 seasons, 3 Cups (1 as a starter), alllllllll those wins and great regular seasons, some good (and some bad) playoff runs.. not every goalie is a "top tier" franchise goalie like Brodeur. Point is, with their 5 drafts in a row, they landed the core for a Cup-winning, Cup-contending team, and they didn't have to play any guessing games. The picks were obvious (maybe except Whitney), and miles better than anything in this draft. Nolan/Nico are no Crosby/Malkin..

Ya my definition of franchise is the cornerstone, Marty, Henrik, etc... Fleury to me was just a starting goalie that road the wave of luck being on that team. But for sure Shero did get lucky. But with his luck and Hall's #1 lottery luck we should be golden.
