Lets not forget the guy made the Pens into what they are today. I think he won't make any bad decisions and if one is made you don't agree with, then its for a purpose.

Whoever Shero picks I guarantee it'll make us all happy and relieved.

I hope its Nolan, because Nico could very well be a fluke. Nolan and Zacha both big bodied centermen could cause real trouble.

- Leniwm1

.... the guy also had a generational player fall in his lap at #1, another top 5-10 player for the next decade with 2nd overall, a franchise goalie, and Jordan Staal.

what Shero has here with Nico/Nolan is nothing like the gifts bestowed upon him in Pittsburgh.

This. At least he can't (frank) it up as long as he keeps the pick, Nolan or Nico and it's a win.

All I say is that the devils were very impressed with what the medical teams said about his injuries and possible future injury concerns, and the person I know feels that it has influenced them

The devils may well still take Nico

I heard the medical team told Shero that by getting these injuries out of the way earlier in his career he'd be healthier later on. Kinda like JJ's progression from emergency room frequent flyer card member to NJD Ironman. So he's totally going Nolan. I'm not even going to watch because I'm that sure. Well really because my son has his last hockey game for his Spring League tonight....

Fluery is not a franchise goalie and Jordan Staal like all Staals highly overrated. But I do get your point.

it's for the better. I'd rather have a quiet day and draft a guy than have the day the Hawks are having, for example.

Let the deals start happening after we use the 1st over all pick. Either to move back into the late 1st tonight or make some moves tomorrow. After we picked up Helgeson lite I'm good with not making any more moves until later.

Whose day is worse? Hawks or Rags?

They lost a 2nd line center and a starting goaltender for a draft pick and a project defenseman. That's making Vancouver's Schneider swap to NJ look pretty good.

Easily Hawks. Rangers at least had a large salary dump out of it. Hawks didn't improve players wise and took on more money for the reasons that Kane and Toews miss their best friend. You might see Rangers move a bunch of players around just to get a lot of fresh bodies and stock up on draft picks. They're probably planning on having 1-2 down seasons and reloading in free agency. I think Rangers sold low on Stepan but I understand you want to get something for the guy before the potential to regress further. I think Raanta was probably worth more than what they traded him for.

I get it... TSN explained that the Hawks were moving out players they weren't going to be able to sign in two years anyway, so rather than losing assets for nothing or for fluid assets (draft picks), they got a tangible return now. Still isn't happy for both sides, because they're both having "reload" type of days where they had to sacrifice a little bit of the now for the future.

I would personally prefer having poopty cap dumps where I'd trade solid/good aging players for free to resign young quality players like Panarin. Losing him for Saad is just a bad deal. I understand the wanting to get something for something, but sometimes you just need to cut your losses. They are still in a terrible cap situation and have to make big concessions to get under cap in the first place.

It's a salary dump to offer Shattenkirk 7 years at $7M. I'd rather sign Shattenkirk at that then keep Stepan for 4 years at $6.5M.

I wouldn't... Stepan is only overpaid about a mill a year, if that... Shatty at 7m/y for 7 years will look a lot like Wade Redden in a couple of years...

He's better than you're giving credit. But I think seven years is too much to invest into one player with injury rates. But I think ~6.25 for 5 years or something if reason for Shattenkirk.

Bigger picture here. The Rags opened a ton of space buying out Girardi and dumping Stepan, two players who were not playing up to their cap hit, picked up a 7th overall pick, now have Skjei, DeAngelo and Day in the pipeline and still have their other 1st round pick. Trade market isn't great for goalies so they weren't going to get a ton for Raanta. There are plenty of back up options for them and I really doubt they are done making moves.
