The Oilers protected Kassian...Interesting.

They did him a favour to protect him from himself. Vegas would destroy him.

I just finished looking over the available players and Vegas could have a really good team. A playoff team.

Cap could go up to 75 mil today which would give us 15.8 in cap space 18 roster spots filled

Yeah the question will be how many of those decent players are protected with draft picks or prospects.

So, clearly the team sucks and Vegas ain't got much to pick from.. which, compared to Nashville and Pittsburgh, works a bit in our favour. So, hypothetically if this expansion happened after the Canucks went to the final, I wonder how it would have shaped up:

Daniel Sedin
Henrik Sedin
Ryan Kesler
Mikael Samuelsson
Alexandre Burrows
Mason Raymond
Manny Malhotra
Raffi Torres
Jannik Hansen
Jeff Tambellini
Tanner Glass
Chris Higgins
Alexandre Bolduc
Victor Oreskovich
Lee Sweatt
Cody Hodgson
Aaron Volpatti
Peter Schaefer
Maxim Lapierre
Rick Rypien

Christian Ehrhoff
Alexander Edler
Christopher Tanev
Aaron Rome
Sami Salo
Keith Ballard
Dan Hamhuis
Kevin Bieksa
Andrew Alberts

Roberto Luongo
Cory Schneider

Without using hindsight too much, how much more panic would there have been? There's some names off the list that I deleted as they didn't really matter, and I think a few would have been exempt (Tanev, Schneider, Hodgson..)

This could be interesting for sure. Anaheim has exposed Manson and Vatanen, so willing that bring back Vegas a couple nice picks or prospects, assuming Ducks want to try keep both of them, or do they just say it is time to give Montour and Theodore the spot of the claimed player?
Interesting times for some of these top teams for sure, others like the Canucks and Coyotes...not so much. Losing an AHL/ECHL calibre player is no big.deal.

I laugh when I read on Twitter the number of people fearing and loathing the thought of losing Boucher

If I was Vegas I would say no thanks to the Ducks and select one of Vatanen or Manson

Agreed. Same with Minnesota I would take Dumba.

They will have a good goalie/s and a pretty decent defense for sure. Also have 4 3rd lines which already puts them in a better than us with our 3 3rd lines and a 5th line, with a mediocre defense and suspect goaltending.

Picking Vegas for 20th spot.

The more quality players exposed by one team should represent a higher draft pick or top prospect. So far both NYI and CBJ have offered 1st. VGK are going to end up with multiple 1st this next and next is my assumption. VGK in 5 yrs will have a solid group.

Agree that shot of his is unreal. Would like to see what Green could do with him planted on the PP in the 'Ovechkin' zone...

I'm surprised the Sedins didn't choose to protect Gaunce. His lumbering skating and lack of balls is probably appealing to them.

It will either be Gaunce or Sbisa. In order to hit cap floor I would guess Sbisa.

It is a head scratcher…1 goal in 77 NHL games has mass appeal.
