He's overpaid by about 2-2.5 million. To replace him in FA, we'd have to overpay someone by 1-2 million. To replace him via trade, we'd have to trade futures or decent roster players. We can't replace him internally. No way we PAY to create that problem.

I'll take that over payment anyday for a player who elevates his game in the playoffs like Ryan did.

Nobody is going to give up a 1st to get rid of a bad contract.

Is Ryan overpaid........NO DOUBT......but the guy is still a 20 goal 50pt 2nd line player. He's overpaid by about 2 mil in today's market.......sens would be dumb to give up a 1st to save 2-3 mil

Definitely leave Ryan exposed and if Vegas takes him then so be it.......but you don't give up a 1st.

This is just a ridiculous EK rumour with nothing behind it

a 20 goal 50 point player that scores 25 points this year? even if you prorate that he was barely over a 30 point pace.

he's in David Clarkson territory. just paid more so worth less.

He had a bad season because his mum died, who was apparently the one family member he really had all his life.

Every other year of his career he has been on a 20-goal, 50 point pace, even while playing through injuries. It took him a while to grieve his mother's unexpected passing from cancer but it seemed he turned a corner in the playoffs after scoring 15 pts in 19 GP

A lot of unknowns with Ryan. Several injuries during the year, then the healthy scratch without much detail. After the GWG vs Bruins, he said it took until the last game of regular season to buy into/ figure out the system and what he needed to do.

Now nobody knows exactly what happened. Why did he look like a totally different player in the playoffs. Blocking shots, hitting people, looking like the top line player they traded for.

If we see 70% of the "playoff" Ryan next year, he easily gets 50 points. Who will show up next year?

Forget the fact that he played a good chunk of the rest of the season barely able to hold a stick and getting pain injections in his hand before every game

Love to have him on Boston. Would have to figure out some cap issues obviously. Might look good on a line with Bergeron and Marchand. Then we can put Krejci and Pastranak together.

Marchand - Beregeron - Ryan
Pastranak - Krejci - Cheralik
Stafford - Backes - Vatrano
Schaller - Moore - /Kurarly/Accari

Dump Spooner, Hayes, Belesky might help with some cap space. Maybe trade one or two of them for Ryan.

Have to resign Stafford and Moore though. They played great last year.

Still made a lot of money.

Sorry to ruin the party of mostly fans of other teams. The maximum I can see us doing is trading for a lesser player with less salary/cap, added with a pick from our side (see Brassard/Zibanejad).

I think Beleskey + Spooner for Ryan + a 2nd or 3rd makes sense. Dont know if you got the cap though

To continue, we don't add 1st rounders. Nothing wrong with both Ryan and Phaneuf, jist overpaid.

To Rangers: phaneuf
To Senators: girardi, 3rd pick

Would be kind of a deal I see us make to save salary

I'm going to get blasted but if Chicago wants to stay elite they should be looking to get out of toews' contract. A 60 point center is not worth 10.5m/year. Leadership is a myth.
- Mattkriz

Won't get blasted by me. I wouldn't have given him that deal and I'd absolutely be looking to get out from under it

So a question about all those choosing a team. The Pens get a lot of poop about x players.

Now all those choosing the Preds, I do hope you've never had a bad word to say against James Neil!

Why not just trade him with salary retained?

Pronger and Datsyk to Vegas according to some of my sources but may be just a rumored rumor.

In a weak draft class you chance of finding a NHL player probably isn't above 25% with that pick. And you will pay him 4 million on his elc. Next years pick for you would likely have better odds. Regardless you save about 31-32 million in cash costs. In last years market that gets you Louis Eric son or Lucia for about 6 years.

all canadian teams other then vancouver are getting better every year which means we can expect the cap to continue to rise. 7mill is the new 5 mill, hes overpaid but this isn't close to being bad enough to give up a first just to get rid of the guy.
