I feel they will stay with the youth movement. Any decent prospect will be held onto. Build the farm up strong and draw from that. I expect them to pick up a few D men, bring them to camp and cut the ones that they don't want. I doubt they go after another teams #1 D man.. - bixll
it'll be a numbers game. with rychel and leipec needing to clear waivers, there just won't be room for everyone. |

This is pretty much how I see it too. The guys they just signed are most likely for depth and might get a game or 2 in NHL depending on injuries.
Give polak at pto and see how his leg is.
Hunwick gone
Move carrick to 6/7 dman
Just need to fill in the gaps and see if dermott is ready this year. - bryant
Bingo, they will commit very little in money before the kids get paid. Managing the cap is key right now.. JMO. |

Not sure about not going after others dmen? But I agree that they'll keep building with youth I don't expect them to ravage their prospect pool to get one |

I like Kapanen.
I like Brown.
I'd trade either of them for defensive help.
The other guys? We have other guys who can do the job just as well. - Atomic Wedgie
kap, brown and rychel seem to bring the most unique/top skill set. they'll also have the most trade value ... |

Time to move past polak, marincin and the other crap D we had. Agreed Carrick would be a good 5/6 dman....get a 3/4 dman and 4/5 dman..
The two new euro dmen will be with Marlies and do some spot work with the leafs.
Leave Dermot and Nielsen in the AHL..the need another year and unless one does great in camp...then give them some spot work as well. |

Tanev shoots (use the word loosely) right, so have to add one of Matthews or Marner |

They have lots of cap and have already set aside cap money for three kids.
They just committed big money to Z and wont be afraid to do the same for another Dman. Within reason of course.
A trade(s) and UFA signings will occur this off season.
Just not for a 1-2 dman |

Might be a decent 3rd line winger.
Probably a Hab next year. |

Phaneuf 32, 7.0 for the next 4 years.... ROFL, talk that one up any way you want. He sucked.
Ryan, 30, 7.25 for 5 years. Had some bright spots in playoffs been useless for the year... will not improve at this point
MacArthur 32, 4.65 for 3 more years
Zack Smith 29, 3.25 for 4 more years
Turris, 27 Good second line center. At 27 he is not going to become more than that. He has one more year, and then he is going to get more than 4.
Anderson 36, Burrows 36, Methot 32, Brassard 29 ... not going to get better.
So 9 guys who are going to decline and 4 guys making 22+ on a budget team, who are not tradeable,
You have Karlsson @6.5 for 2 more years... what do you think it takes to re-sign one of the top 5 players in the league?
It's a beautiful day today!

No team will move a #1 D man if they are not getting a gigantic return.....
Are the Leafs willing to get rid of the talent they have gathered to get another teams #1, or have some patients and allow the team to grow and mature? |

ya well I'm hoping that even leivo brown lepsic Rychel hyman and kappy can stay with the team! Wishful thinking of course with expansion for some and possibly trade for other?but the depth chart is most promising than in years - MR.Hunter
Hyman exempt, Brown will be protected, no way they expose him, but he might be traded. There will be trades, I'm quite sure.

Carey Price = 30 yrs old in August, Bergeron will sign him for 8 years, $100Million and add 3-4 4th line grinders to make up for losing Dracula.

If I had to guess, Price will get 8.5M/yr. Same cap hit as the King |

The key is to have a team of 28 year olds only.

That would be a big home team discount - less than Subban got and he's been their best player for a few years. Montreal is one of the best cities to play in, IMO, however, Montreal - needs a retooling. Need some young fresh blood. Plekanek on last year at $6M is 34, Weber 31, Petry 29, Patchy Patch is 28 - only Galchenyuk and Gallagher could be considered young players. Not sure if the rebuild Leafs did is possible in Montreal, fans would be quite upset. How old will Price be, before they contend?

Not really.
A 30 year old goalie for more than 12 million per would be nuts IMO.
8.5- 9.5 for price. |
