Honest to goodness, if I was in charge of refereeing, any time a stick made contact with a player above the knee, there would be a call.

Every franking time. No exceptions.

It would be an absolute poopshow for 2 years. A steady stream to the penalty box. Guys screaming that Wedgie had ruined the game - the referees were deciding every game, if I wanted to watch figure skating I'd watch figure skating, blah blah blah.

But I'd stick to my guns, and after 2 years, you wouldn't ever question why I did it.

Hockey would be enjoyable to watch.

Well Button was TSN radio saying that Nylander should only be traded for a bonafide number 1 dman...other than that dont trade him. this was a couple of days.
I didnt listen to 1050 this morning so my apologies if what you are referring to occurred today.

So... just for the giggles of discussing,

What if Phoenix offered OEL for Nylander or Marner. Do you do either deal?

(not that Phoenix would do that).

I agree - hate the coaching style, the Preds fans are pretty crazy though - don't expect to see any empty seats. Besides, Pittsbugh has won enough, they've also won by using bankruptcy card twice - being on NHL/Toronto/Montreal welfare plan and some very iffy drafts, which were considered fixed by many - Fleury/Malkin/Crosby while they were going through re-structuring/league help.

No - I would not. Leafs have 3 - legit 1st line players on entry level deals. Why (frank) with that?

In Frenchie's defence, he really is too ugly to be hired for most jobs.

I like OEL more than most it seems so I'd do it. I would feel dirty about it and either player would end up maximizing their potential and then some. They would score 17 goals against the Leafs per game. As is tradition.

If we're getting lofty though, I'd love them to find a way to get Pietrangelo or Parayako

Ya they would want Nylander and a 1st plus Dermott+ probably? So it's not in torontos best interest, imo,Montreal, boston, ottawa, tampa, Edmonton, to name a few would be a fit, but their asking for top 6 a 1st and top defenseman prospect depending on the peices ? Imo

DailyFaceoff weirdly doesn't even have OEL listed on the team right now.

OH MAN! Maybe the Leafs traded Boyles rights + a 3rd and Bracco for OEL! *Holds Breath*

i wonder how much he'd want with his next contract. that's really the only thing that would worry me. he only has 2 years left on his current deal. that's risky.

I loved the obstruction crackdown. I absolutely franking loved it.

I know there was a lot of whining about it, but I thought it was the best hockey the NHL had in 15-20 years.

Guys free to actually play with the puck.

But of course the NHL is the NHL, so it took about 2 years for the crackdown to completely erode away, and lo and behold, we are back to the garbage game of clutching and grabbing, while the league tries to figure out how to make the game more exciting and increase scoring.

Hockey: the only sport in the world where a referee sees an infraction, looks at the score, looks at the amount of time left, looks at if anyone is already in the penalty box, and then does mental calculations to figure out if he is going to call a penalty or not.

It's franking embarrassing.

- Atomic Wedgie

Totally agree with you. One thing you should keep in mind is - relative to other sports, NHL still has superior officiating. NBA - is disgraceful - too many faults to list, MLB is pathetic - umpire egos bigger than the planet with obscene strike zones, soccer seems to be officiated by only those with visual impairments and Many NFL games are decided by calls not all of them correct. But I still agree with you, call everything and play hockey. Let talent rule.

NOOOOOOO!

Not just because I don't want to move any of the legit talent we've had in years but because I don't trust OEL's game outside of Arizona plus he's bland to me....

Big guys with snarl is what we need and I still wouldn't want to give up Nylander or Marner for them.

Would rather stick to the plan and wait it out a bit longer. Some type of trade should come up in the next year or so that won't cost us one of our stars. And this from an impatient bastard who wants the D fixed NOW!

IMO we have to keep:
Matthews
Nylander
Marner
Brown
Kadri
Rielly
Zaitsev
Gardiner
Andersen

Everyone else and draft picks should get someone decent for the D.

They also look at how many penalties the teams have been given.

In the playoffs they also look at how many penalties each team had in the series.

The Phaneuf call last night had to be made. Kessel was going to leave him in the dust. If the Pens didn't get called in the 2nd, I am not even sure the Phaneuf call gets made.

Phaneuf 32, 7.0 for the next 4 years.... ROFL, talk that one up any way you want. He sucked.

Ryan, 30, 7.25 for 5 years. Had some bright spots in playoffs been useless for the year... will not improve at this point

MacArthur 32, 4.65 for 3 more years

Zack Smith 29, 3.25 for 4 more years

Turris, 27 Good second line center. At 27 he is not going to become more than that. He has one more year, and then he is going to get more than 4.

Anderson 36, Burrows 36, Methot 32, Brassard 29 ... not going to get better.

So 9 guys who are going to decline and 4 guys making 22+ on a budget team, who are not tradeable,

You have Karlsson @6.5 for 2 more years... what do you think it takes to re-sign one of the top 5 players in the league?

It's a beautiful day today!

Karlsson to the Leafs 2019
