I can live with Chad Johnson on a two year for 5 million (2.5aav)

I still have my $2 on Bernier. I can see Johnson as a dark horse/fall back/consolation prize. The market has tightened in terms of choices for buyers and destinations for UFAs.

For starting jobs, maybe, but there are still lots of teams that will be looking for backup options.

If they sign Johnson to a 1 or 2 year deal, it's fine with me. They won't be a Cup contender before 19-20 at the earliest, so the goalie tandem isn't something that Im gonna get worked up about for the next 2 seasons.

I will. At some point, one of the kids will need significant playing time, be in Stolarz, Lyon, Madsen, Sandstrom, etc. Signing both Neuvirth and Johnson for the next 2 years means no significant playing time for those guys until 19/20 as rookies.

Unless they force their way onto the roster, like Provy did.

There were 7/8 spots for defensemen. There are 2 spots for goalies. You can healthy scratch 1 NHL defenseman while playing a rookie defenseman in your mix. Can't do the same with goalies since you can only play 1 at a time.

Unless the team wants to carry 3 goalies on their roster.

Signing 2 average goalies to relatively low cost deals isn't going to block anyone, either could be moved at any time. Plus, I don't think any young goalie is ready to be a regular going into next season. Stolarz has been good, not great at the AHL level and is coming off a serious injury. Lyon had an up and down rookie year, and should be spending another season in the minors. Madsen hasn't even played a single pro game and Sandstrom is playing in Europe next year. Finally, Hart has another year of Junior coming and will certainly need at least 1 AHL season after that.

They aren't blocking anyone.

1. I don't really view Stolarz or Lyon as future starters, so I'd be fine with signing a guy to a 2-3 year deal. If they sign a guy like Johnson to a 1-year deal, they'll just need to find a starter next year IMO.

2. Johnson isn't really much better than Neuvirth, so signing him puts them in position where the best possible outcome is just average goaltending next year. The Flyers lineup may improve, but it's hard to believe their lineup can overcome poor goaltending again.

3. I really wish the Flyers found an alternative route to dealing with the Vegas goalie situation. Neuvirth is the prototypical backup, but he's too good to be sent to the minors. I'd like to see more of a clear path for either Lyon or Stolarz becoming a backup next year. Maybe the Flyers trade Neuvirth or he (probably) gets injured.

This is the main reason why I want a 1 year deal. Use teams wanting to get rid of a goalie as leverage for acquiring someone with 1 year left. Hopefully Stolarz gets some more time in the NHL. Re-evaluate next summer

If Neuvirth is your competition for starts as compared with, say, John Gibson, I think that makes Philly an attractive destination.

I kind of have a similar problem. At work I cant download Adblocker for chrome and it constantly moves my screen to the ad on the page. I had to stop using chrome because I could not read more than 1 post before it would make me watch the same ad over and over.
