I guess Virtanen also proves what a 6th overall pick is worth too.

Flawed logic, bud.

you're going to need to send a lot of firsts over then for Tanev

That occurred during a period of very weak free agent class and was heavily criticized by nearly everyone in the hockey community, I think Tanev has high value but the market is not the same anymore

Agreed! That doesn't mean that jim won't get a good return! But can you guy's tell me why can't he play on your team? I mean is it sell high mode?or doesn't fit with the plan?

Tanev played 53 games tho. I am not trying to discredit Tanev, I am just simply saying. Reilly is a much better player than Hutton. If we are offered a Hutton for Reilly trade, we take that 10 times out of 10.

I guess it is official that we will see a former Canuck raise the cup this year

Essentially the same reasons you guys moved on from Phil the Thrill. Not in future plans given his age, value will begin to decline, need additional assets, etc.

Canucks already have an aging defender in Edler, who would be the preference to move right now, but since he doesnt appear to be waiving his NTC Tanev is next in line

I have a dream, that one day the commenters on this blog will not be judged by the color of the sweater they wear, but by the content of their character.

Definitely. I jumped on the Nashville bandwagon after their first round, otherwise I am fine with ANA/OTT. Anyone but PIT

How bold u r to criticize & yet offer up nothing as to what Tanevs value is.
Hall for Larson proves what D value is.
Maybe try offering up your own opinion before knockng others.
Many words & very little substance. Typical fickle fan post complaining but providing no ideas. Chicken Little Syndrome........CLS

- Nighthawk

Let me give this a try. In a different sort of way. If you were trading Tanev to Pittsburg who would you expect to get back. Reasonably.

Ottawa is my first choice, them and WPG are the other 2 canadian teams I'll cheer for. I love the way Nashville is playing, but it's hard to get past the fact that Subban is on the team, can't stand that guy

Still chuckling over the great Washington Capitals getting eliminated. One of the few teams I could never get behind. Arizona, Florida and NJ being the others.

On another note; watch Carolina this off-season, they have some nice pieces and need to add a good Centre to help their young players Roy and Gauthier and the young talented defense.

Context being that Toronto is also still building and wouldnt give up anything Vancouver needs ie elite talent or high draft picks. We are all well aware that we need a Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Reilly/etc. but we wont be getting them from another team

Pittsburghs prospect pool is trash, all they have is sprong in the QMJHL who tries to dangle every player on the ice at least 5x every shift

Reilly ???

We don't need another turnover machine who can't play defense

If we're taking context into consideration, that luminary followed it up by saying Hutton for Rielly wouldn't change the team at all.

Lets pretend we're in a universe where Vancouver has a shot at the playoffs in the next 3-5 years, and the salary cap doesn't exist.

Do you say no to a Tanev for Doughty trade?

I don't believe this is an appropriate post for a ref.

Really, sorry if that was offensive, it was an observation of all the leaf fans declaring what they think someone is worth.

Hutton is awful compared to Rielly, but to each their own I guess

Not as comparable as you think. Larsson was 4 years younger when traded than Tanev is now, he didn't/doesn't have a history of injuries like Tanev does and I don't think there's a team as desperate as Edmonton was for a RHD in the league right now (maybe ever).

Teams like Detroit, Tampa and Philadelphia are probably your best bets.
