Reilly has had one season where he was a plus player and that was in the WHL |

So it's a tie. - Marwood
I know it comes across like I'm all dreamy with what the Leafs have done, regarding the comparison with Buffalo, however, the truth is the Leafs had a lot more to work with than was ever given to Tim Murray.
Really they've only drafted one guy (outside of Matthews of course) since Shanny took over that've played any meaningful time with the Leafs, Marner, but they do deserve credit for that. They were very fortunate things worked out with getting the first pick to land Matthews, but really, I don't think he's that much better than Eichel.
I'd be extremely happy to build with either!! |

My point is that there are a number of situations and potential options to explore long before a guy like Tanev is even considered. Why pay the premium when you don't have to?
Teams like the Ducks, Wild, Preds, Jackets, Islanders all have young D I'd consider before Tanev. Then there are suitable UFA's and other trade avenues to explore, i.e. What can JvR bring in?
I think the Canucks fans are grossly overvaluing Tanev here, while undervaluing other team's assets. Remind me what Tanev's injury history looks like? The guy has never played over 70 games... SEVENTY... 7-0!!! - As_I_See_It

It's Rielly and he'd be the Canucks second best dman behind Tanev. I'd love to have him and Tanev as a pairing. Chris Tanev's shot suppression is all-world, not to mention his board-work and puck transition skills are outstanding. |

Leafs would benefit from Tanev to be sure. Crappy thing is they really don't have anything we need. Need to find a better trading partner for Tanev.
Reality is that Leafs aren't going to see a 2nd or 3rd round in the PO's for 4-5 years. They probably won't ever see a 4th round as it's completely alien to them. They need many many ingredients to get to the 2nd or 3rd rounds in the PO's and it will be awhile. - LordHumungous
Really so that means Vancouver isn't for ten?to... |

his +/- is more indicative of the fact they're not a great defensive team and he needs more help back there. When Horvat was given too much responsibility his plus minus suffered as well, when he got the proper support it got better. |

The next person after him is -7, I would say that it wasn't the teams fault. Jake Gardiner was plus 24 on the same team. His plus minus has gotten continuously worse. |

I'm comparing two teams, just two!!! Leafs had Nylander, Brown, Kadri, Rielly, Gardiner, JVR and Bozak, all of whom are contributing factors to the Leafs success this year.
Tim Murray didn't have that luxury, that's what I was commenting on. |

Reilly is so much better than Hutton man, its not even close. Reilly is one heck of a player. The problem is, that the leafs only really have him, Gardiner and Zaitsev. They so badly need him to be paired with someone who is good. - Codes1087 Agreed |

You're reading too much into +/-. It really is the most debatable stat in all of hockey. There is so many variables with it. Factor in the forwards with the Canucks. How would a player like Burns do with a forward line of Cramarossa, Shore, and Chaput compared to a forward line of Thorton, Pavelski and Marleau. There is just way too many variables into the +/- stat which pretty much renders it near useless. |

Too much ice-time and or bad pairing, he's a good young player! Hard to admit because he wears a Leaf sweater I know, but it's true. |

I don't see the hype at all. Gardiner is a much better player than him and he plays for the leafs too. |
