Tanev might be a the best option out there, for a Right shooting top 4 D man.

Trouba is a much better option but the cost would be way more (Nylander won't be enough).

I would take a 1st rounder from Toronto( likely middle round pick and a decent prospect or 2nd round pick) for Tanev.

Keeping in mind I never really liked the Muffin man, but he would be a good top 4 for almost every team

I bet you would!

With the expansion draft on the horizon and some of the exposure situations out there, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Lamoriello can find a top 4 D without parting with our 1st round pick.

If Tanev is so (frank)ing awesome, why are Vancouver fans so horny to trade him?

I have a dream, that one day the commenters on this blog will not be judged by the color of the sweater they wear, but by the content of their character.

he should be traded because he won't be relevant when the nucks finally make it back to the playoffs.

Your First this yr isn't worth much anyways... weak draft. No one is going to give you a Right Shooting d-man playing top 2 minutes currently for it. Who do you think you can get for that?

Carol dared to mention that the Leafs are looking for a defense-man and Tanev might fill that bill.

Now we have a pile of so called hockey experts from the Leafs thinking they know how to judge player value from the comfort of their couch, spouting off.

Keep dreaming if you think your team is going to do any real damage.

And the only pleasure that will be happening here will be from me...

That will give me pleasure in a purely platonic sense.

Or the Leafs could just keep all their players, try to sign Alzner or Stone, and make the playoffs for the next 7-10 years with this group of forwards.

Paris just must be a really expensive place to visit. Why else would she go out of her way to encourage visits by they who shall not be mentioned.

My point is that there are a number of situations and potential options to explore long before a guy like Tanev is even considered. Why pay the premium when you don't have to?

Teams like the Ducks, Wild, Preds, Jackets, Islanders all have young D I'd consider before Tanev. Then there are suitable UFA's and other trade avenues to explore, i.e. What can JvR bring in?

I think the Canucks fans are grossly overvaluing Tanev here, while undervaluing other team's assets. Remind me what Tanev's injury history looks like? The guy has never played over 70 games... SEVENTY... 7-0!!!

I'm not going to read this thread. Carol really? Babcock and Dreger I'd be happier with what you ate for breakfast, at least I would read that.

Not offensively talented and -20 on supposedly a good leafs team, I wouldn't trade Hutton for him.

My point is what team is giving up a player, playing top pairing, that you can get for your first? You mentioned a bunch of teams that have issues with the expansion draft, not sure on the leafs situation with protected players. but even if you could protect them, the cost will be more then Tanev, and the contract will also be more.
Your window has started.... when your young players are due for contracts money will be an issue.

Reilly is so much better than Hutton man, its not even close. Reilly is one heck of a player. The problem is, that the leafs only really have him, Gardiner and Zaitsev. They so badly need him to be paired with someone who is good.

I agree that the other avenues might be better for the Leafs, but I dont think asking a high draft pick and maybe a prospect is outrageous for Tanev.

Deals in the past, excluding the Hall trade and the Gudbranson one, show Hainsey going for essentially a 2nd and Brendan Smith going for a 2nd+3rd this year as rentals. I believe Tanev is much much better than either of those and with a reasonable cap hit for someone that can play over 20/night without hurting his team

Not sure you need him now. Looks like Tanev has it all under control next year. Erik Karrlson like.

Where is the good in making your team worse? I swear you guys would all complain if he played with the canucks.

Leafs would benefit from Tanev to be sure. Crappy thing is they really don't have anything we need. Need to find a better trading partner for Tanev.

Reality is that Leafs aren't going to see a 2nd or 3rd round in the PO's for 4-5 years. They probably won't ever see a 4th round as it's completely alien to them. They need many many ingredients to get to the 2nd or 3rd rounds in the PO's and it will be awhile.
