Not untrue. - thundachunk
yep, it's almost comical. Nylander, Ehlers, Pastrnak, Tkachuk, Konecny have all gone next pick, or a couple in Nylander and Ehlers case, after the Canucks pick. |

In the last 5 years, they're near the best in the league.
Although, since roughly about 2014, the best picks in the league has been whatever teams picks after the Canucks. - prock
Follow along Prock, we're talking about a long history here, not the last five years.
What part about this suggests we're talking about the last five years? Dennis Ververgaert? (he was drafted in 1973)
This organization has had more than its share of busts, Polasek and White are right near the top. Ververgaert wasn't that good a pick either for a 3rd overall. - Reubenkincade |

I like Rasmussen personally, if we are picking a Center - Crazybagoham
Thankfully there is no chance we take him |

stats in junior need to be taken with a grain of salt, he has the hands and size to be a good top 6 centre, I don't think this team can be very picky about how a player gets points.
JB really wanted Dubois last year, if Columbus hadn't have picked him at 3, I think he'd be a Canuck right now. I think JB really wants to add that nasty/tough centre with some skill to build on, I can see him picking Rasmussen over Vilardi/Glass (though if middelstadt is free it would be foolish to turn him up). - Crazybagoham
JB has said PP QB or playmaking center. Rasmussen is the furthest thing from a playmaking center. No chance |

Thankfully there is no chance we take him - CanuckDon Because you said it... there is now 95% chance he is taken. |

Who cares who was drafted in 1973? It's completely irrelevant now, and actually, carried a hell of a lot less relevance for about 20 years leading up to the 06 lockout. The draft wasn't nearly as important pre-salary cap anyway. A big budget was far more important. |

I'm not complaining. Just pointing out, the draft pre-lockout wasn't nearly as important. It means a lot now, but a lot of teams didn't put nearly as much effort into the draft back then. They'd just go out and buy the best players they could in the summer.
for example, the 2002 Red Wings, probably the best example of a team that relied on the draft more than many teams, still had Chelios, Shanahan, Robitaille, Larionov, Brett Hull, and Dom Hasek, all on the roster, not drafted by them. There isn't a single team in the league with that many top players that they didn't draft themselves, in the NHL today. |
