Could the NHLPA negotiate their own deal with the Olympics?

They could create their own line of merchandise of jerseys to keychains to pay the lost salaries of the players.

Owners and the NHL would be shut out of the process. Any owner who threatens to discipline players who went.... strike. If the top 80 (ish) money makers in the game stick together to protect any individual who may be getting poop from the NHL/Owner... the NHL/Owner will be the ultimate losers.

Just the fact that they are all under contract to their teams. If they all banded together and went.....could you imagine

Let's say you've got a contract with your employer that will pay you $30MM over the next 5 years. Do you really want to risk getting fired and having that contract torn up just so you can go play in a recreational hockey tournament for a couple of weeks?

Makar was just on 1040...bright and confident kid. He could be a winner. As per usual, the 1040 guys weren't prepared and asked the wrong questions

Random Hypothetical:

Since Minny is getting screwed by the expansion draft, let's say they call up Benning and offer up Brodin or Dumba for Juolevi, do you do it if you're Jim?

Brodin is 23, Dumba is 22so they fit in with the rebuild. Only problem is that both of them take up an expansion protection slot on the blueline.

- Nucker101

Doesn't make sense, we would need to trade one of tanev/guddy to make it work. Also I would not trade Juolevi for one of them straight up. Maybe Goldy + CBJ 2nd for Dumba, then trade Tanev for a forward or picks. But if we could do something like that, why wouldn't minny just trade one of the 2 for picks/prospects as well?

while many dont like edmonton winning its nice to have 2 canadian teams in final 6 teams left. If oilers win then 2 of final 4. Canadas best chance of a cup in the longest time, a few decades.

even if oilers win I dont see them beating nashville anyways.
Nashville / pens would make for a great series!

2011, both Vancouver and Montreal made conference finals. With Vancouver making the finals.

Saw the Brit Floyd concert there a couple of years ago. Great venue for concerts. We were sitting halfway up the stands at stage left. All the seats are pretty good, since there aren't really any nosebleed seats. Concert stage takes up a quarter of the floor anyway so almost anything seems close. Sound was very good.

Thank you! I've read some good things about the place. Will probably be sitting in a similar spot, somewhere in the middle off to one side or the other

According to Scott Cullen, Tanev is worth Connor Carrick and Brenden Leipsic.

Based on that kind of logic maybe we could trade Michael Chaput and Jayson Megna to the Leafs for Morgan Reilly. Apparently he'd look good playing in his hometown next to Tanev.

- YeOldTimer

He didn't specify Tanev for just those two. For me it would have to be Kapanen + 1st and maybe another small + to trade Tanev to Tor. Or for Nylander straight up.

It would be McDavid, Crosby, Ovi, Mackinnon, Kane, Toews, etd all going. The league would say it was planned from the start while on their knees.

If the top 30+ players in the league all decide to go, the league will not discipline anyone. They could not afford to.

I think he was hinting that on an individual basis, owners might seek legal action to terminate some contracts. The players play in the league, but the league doesnt control the contracts, those are between players and owners

For the case about against trading Tanev.

Yes, I know most are okay with Van sucking again next season or know they will suck.

Looking at Colorado and seeing How bad they really were this season. Duchene, Mackinnon, Landeskog, Rantanen, Barrie. All that talent with zero defence and no goaltending shows how much good D-men are worth to a team.

Tanev is still Van's best defender. Second most experience behind Edler.

I would see what value Hutton brings if they are planning on giving OJ a shot.
Edler Stecher
OJ Tanev
_____ Gudbranson
Pedan Biega

- manvanfan

You realize neither of tanev or edler will even be in the nhl the next time the canucks make the playoffs if that is managements line of thinking. Might as well trade bo for spezza because he will be retired before the team makes the playoffs again too.

Deal edler and tanev and sign some decent ufas to short term higher dollar value contracts that we can then flip in the next year or two so that we can help fill the void...

With those two players we are the worst team in the nhl, keeping them makes zero sense.

Yeah, the OJ idea was just thrown out by me as something Minny would start the call with. If you can get one of those 2 guys and flip Tanev, that'd be great.

If you can deal tanev and edler for picks that deal makes some sense. Gives you those 2 with stetcher, hutton, gud and hopefully tryamkin eventually, not a bad top 6 and all under 25, you could then easily burn 5th pick on a center... would be a good way to speed up with years in the toilet.

Interesting thought. Id prefer deal everyone and do a toronto rebuild though. Was just looking at buffalo and they rushed theres and are totally (frank)ed, they are legit going to have to rebuild from the rebuild.

Oh I agree, but it's not like the guys going wouldn't be very important commodities....not easily replaced. It would be pretty hilarious though.

A bit disappointed that Jasek has decided to stay in the Czech league. JB's drafting of europeans is turning out to be a bit of a dud. Still early though.

@Hefty.

Your comments on the last blog that Canucks failure to draft a center since Linden is a little bizarre . They had Hank as a number one center for 16 years. They also had Kesler for nine years and the West Coast express . There was no urgency to draft a center .

Gillis gave away draft picks like tic tacs . He never planned for the future. Fifteen years ago teams did not look at drafting top centers or top D the way they do today.

Most D back then were drafted second round and later.

Modern times calls for drafting top D and top centers as the priority and I see Canucks concentrating on that for the next couple of years.
