Hawks need a 2C who can win faceoffs. Especially if Kruger is unloaded, the team needs another center. Maybe two.
Top-mid 6 Centers,
And a goalie look like the needs right now. - 93Joe
Their biggest need, as it seems to be every year (and likely going forward), is to shed salary and get cap compliant. |

The question now is does Nill buyout both Lehtonen and Niemi to sign Bishop? - walleyeb1
both have a year left; lehtonen has higher cap hit.....one is definately going...but they would still have 10 mildo in goalie = a problem
neimi to chicago...possibly but stars would have to eat 50% of that contract...

No doubt and one way to encourage behavior is send one person packing. Many players were rightfully rewarded when times were good, An inverse action is now required. - riozzo

with all the "GMing going on here...i still think net positives on the trade front is just about impossible...any move must have salary dump motive and that means so called hockey trade will be very difficult to pull off unless it involves kane or toews...
it seems to me any trade of the core weakens them in an area while plugging a hole somewhere else...
for the hawks to improve means the 6-7 rookies of this year have to jump it up a notch or 2

Powerplay and penalty kill is LOOOONNNGG overdue. There needs to be a shakeup with that regarding coaching as well. |

It is fairly obvious a retooling of the roster includes moving one supposed core member. One or two low cost veterans probably come aboard.
As far as prospects go, they must be viewed as nice surprises if they impact the NHL roster. Perhaps a prospect may move into a role after half a season (or longer) in the AHL. I could see that happening with a couple skill forwards, not so much with Snuggerud. Assume youthful members Kempny and Forsling are here. You would be gambling too many mistakes and goals against with three young blueliners despite the veterans they could pair.
However the forward lines come together - and i want Hayden hitting part of the equation- it all starts with two very big questions.
The first is Toews back not an ongoing issue
The second issue. LISTEN JJ IF IT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED - AND I DO NOT THINK SO YET -
an assistant or head coach has to step up and be respected insofar as pp movement, pp decisions on ice, and other predictably. By predictability, i mean did Dineen mention this to McDonough. Because a HOF coach and successful GM won some Cups despite ineptnes and brutal ignorance of obvious shortcoming
Yes, lack of speed throughout line up is somewhat discerning, and lack of accountability in physical approach (eg checking, board scrums, pay back for Toews mugging) is a large concern.
But what should really piss off fans is the appearance that the players run and decide how to operate the Pp at the expense of the coaches. And stars do the same darn play so easily antipated. Yes, tell Kane and Panerin to mix it up. And if Q insists on Keith the main pp guy, well short of sign wielding fans calling Q out - which isn't going to occur - let's just hope better decisions are made by GM, coach, and players. |

Would you take Niemi if Dallas retained a large portion of his salary? |

No. Save cap $ with the swede at Rockfird last year. Even Glass as #3. You can win with descent goaltending. Crawford salary and other top salaries means sacrificing somewhere, somehow. I prefer investing in the skaters in front of the goaltender than a back up netminder.
Niemi is too expensive for this salary strapped team |

Niemi is too expensive for this salary strapped team. Even if Dallas pays some if it. Our back up could be real cheap, less than whatever Niemi gets. Nimi is too soft goal allowing anyway. The league knows him. A good talent but he has issues./quote] |

Offer a #2 2017 and Kryz for Kovalchuk and a #3 2018
Cheap price fir a still top talent. That #2 2017 is in a crap draft year. Loose a prospect far away from NHL whom is difficult to priject if he ever could become a second pair. Then St a n can roll the duce and trade a core guy. It is going to be either Panarin or Hjalmarsson. I would give Schmaytz too, because the physucality will a kways be an issue with him. Of course we get something we realky need. Better be a realky skill guy who is nit intimidated, or fast and strong.
If Tamoa then Panarin not in trade. Makes no sense Tamoa exhanges skill forwards. If Drouin then i foresee two trades
I will be watching how Stan imprives the face off proficiency too.
Both Stan and Q have something to prove after the playoff collapse No coach allows hus team to compete so poorly despite i injuries or any other excuse . |

Toss in Anders Lee and I'd take that trade in a second. - EnzoD
Money doesn't work here, Lee is 3.75 million cap hit in addition to Leddy. If anything, Brock Nelson coming back at 2.6 and could come off books in a few years. He's also very Saad-lite. |

When the Hawks beat the Bolts in the 15 Cup, Tampa was touted as the next big heavy weight. Wow have things changed. For both clubs.
- z1990z
yes they were...and rightly be so...they were young, fast and had to great players in stamkos and hedman and net minding looked solid...
stamkos gets resigned but then has serious knee injurys...he may never recover to the numbers he had, salary cap catches up to them with their young forwards and bingo...gone like the hawks
