at what point will we finally just be able to say that he's not a good NHL player? if he does get traded he'll be the same guy on a different team. - Fountain-San
He's not NHL material. Realistically I can't see him being worth more than a 3rd.
Also guys, Vegas isn't taking Hayes. McPhee is a reasonably intelligent GM. The only option with Hayes is a buyout. |

Is there the potential to trade Spooner's rights to Pittsburg to talk to Bonino before July 1st?
I think it is beneficial to both teams. Bonino would be a perfect third line Center to replace what Spooner was supposed to be. And avoid forcing JFK or Senyshyn into a role they aren't ready for yet. I know Boston wants a winger, but Bonino could be attained for a reasonable price of maybe 3.5 million? And that keeps Backes in the top 6 as an RW, who imo is a better winger than center.
Unless we think Czarnik is going to be ready to play full time 3C |

I just picked this up from Todd Cordell's article about the Devils trading for Spooner:
"Since the beginning of the 2015-16 season, Spooner has averaged 1.67 points per 60 at 5v5. That's more than Jakob Silfverberg, Nathan MacKinnon, Milan Lucic, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin and Alex Wennberg, among many others. That's a good crop of players to be hanging with."
So you might not like his game, and might not want him on the Bruins, but to say he's not NHL material is being a bit hyperbolic. Some team out there will want him. It doesn't sound like he'll be back with the Bruins the way the media has been talking.
And I don't think they're buying Hayes out... that would be a waste of money, pretty much like the Seidenberg deal. |

Uh-huh. See where he is in 3 years. A.H.L. He sucks.
As for Hayes Not sure why this needs to be explained..but here goes. People on this thread and in the fanbase are delusional(celtics fans level) enough to believe McPhee is going to draft Jimmy Hayes. Now back to reality where the only options here are buyout, waive and bury in Providence, or put him in the bottom 6 next season.
Fiscally may not be worth it but sometimes you have to eat money on poopty decisions. See DiPietro, Bryzgalov, Yashin ect |

Yeah. Ryan Spooner does not suck. He just doesnt play a heavy game right now but he is also still young. To say he isnt NHL material is just dumb. He is one of the more skilled players on the Bruins roster.
I am willing to wager that he will get stronger on his skates and have 60 points within the next 3 years. In the N.H.L

Pointless to argue. Plus he is never going to work out here in Boston. Needs a change of scenery.
It will be similar to the Wheeler situation. He will figure it out and be a pretty good point producer, it's just not going to be in Boston with the way they play of the types of lines they assemble.
Odd that he had similar points to Backes and Backes faded down the stretch in the regular season and is under contract for 4 more seasons. Spooner faded just the same.
Which player do you think will be a better value in two seasons?
I think the top six needs a huge shack up to be honest. Something up there needs to change. Pasta emerges, Machand pops, Bergy is still a stud even with a down year points wise but the rest needs an overhaul. |

Maybe, but I don't think he is ready to emerge. It would be nice to have a solid young third line this year with Czarnik, Cehlerik and Vatrano. I think Cehlerik gets a good look the way that Cassidy was speaking of him.
Maybe then Spooner's rights + a defense asset like Zboril? + salary dump of Belesky to a struggling team like (and I don't know who I'll be shot for asking for but) Winnipeg for Ehlers, , LA for Pearson, Carolina for Aho or Konecny from Philly..
Belesky's value is so low right now, but he is a better depth player than he looked last year. |

If you retain salary on Beleskey that might be close, but I'm not sure how attractive that package is. You can probably forget about Ehlers and Aho, likely Konecny too. Pearson I'm not too sure how much LA would want for him. But the other three, I dont think that package is near enough for those teams to consider it. |

Yeah, that's why I'm unsure of who it would attract. But IMO, Spooner is going to do as well on a new team as someone like Aho. Spooner is a 40-50 point player. Belesky is an energy, powerforward type who has shown in the past that he can score. And Zboril was a highly touted first round pick. It's a risk package, but one that may be worth it for a rebuilding team. I thought about adding in a 2nd or 1st to pick, but honestly someone like Aho or Konecny isn't necessarily a proven 2nd liner either. So I think there is some risk on both teams.
Boston needs to bolster now to be competitive for the next 3-5 years. If not, they will have past their prime Backes, Bergeron, Marchand, Krejci in their late 30s. I would like this team to win another cup (duh), and the team needs another strong forward for that second line. If that happens, they are instantly a top 4 team in the east.
Marchand Bergeron Pasta
(someone) Krejci Backes
Vatrano Czarnik Cehlerik
Nash Moore Schaller (Or Kuraly if Moore doesn't resign)
Chara McAvoy
McQuaid Krug
Killer Carlo
Chiller

I like those lines, but don't forget that someone is going during expansion draft (unless you're thinking that's Spooner/Beleskey). I think Cehlerik looked really good on Krejci's line when he got a shot last year. Some of the plays he made were ridiculous, he just had no luck when it came to scoring. I think he scored like 2 goals that got overturned. He looked like he could be a good player for them in the future though.
In my opinion, Colin Miller needs to play next year, or you should get him off this roster. He's not a 7th defenseman... and he's been pushed into that role for far too long. He still makes mistakes, but he's never going to improve only playing half a season. |

100% agree. My thoughts were actually that going with us getting a new LW for the second line, we would lose Spooner and Belesky in that trade. I didn't account for expansion, basically assuming that one of Mcquaid, Killer or Chiller would be taken and that would make Chiller on the bottom pair.
I like Chiller a lot, and think with Carlo and McAvoy in the lineup, it makes McQuaid expendable. Especially if Boston resigns Chara for a year or two.

I'm all for it honestly. He has the drive and leadership. He would be good as a 2nd of bottom pairing and PK specialist. After next season Carlo and McAvoy could potentially be the top pairing, with Krug sliding next to K. Miller and C. Miller next to Chara.
If not, I think they should hang on to McQuaid and maybe have him as the 7th Dman for this upcoming season to shelter his minutes and keep him from getting injured lol... |
