Word on the street is that Botterill is a top candidate and maybe even a shoe-in at this point. Good.

Oh yeah. Knowing that Kadri went after OV's knee, i bet the Pens do the same
- jcragcrumple

I like how the caps handled that...did a little tag-team with a hard swat at the back of his knee...they kept pounding the wussy and he was rendered ineffective the rest of that game and Game-6 as well

good one...we've just witnessed a career season from him...shows that when he's really challenged, he's a paper tiger

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't a second interview usually involve a job offer?

I have had to have three interviews for a job, and then an HR coordinator called with the offer.

I don't know how sports works.

I have no problem with the hire (if it is the hire), and Botterill does have 10 years of experience as an AGM and other things, but this is why Pegula gets himself in trouble with the media. He says he wants an experienced GM, and then goes out and gets an inexperienced GM. He really needs a president of hockey ops to articulate things for him

Looking at the candidates Botterill seems to stand head and shoulders above the rest. Futa and Fenton could work too I guess but I'm not sold.

The Sabres never pick the obvious candidate though it seems so for all I know they'll hire someone who wasn't even on the original shortlist.

The thing about Botterill: He would have to agree to leave the Pens immediately. If they go to the Cup again, he wouldn't be available until mid-june and we don't have time to waste with the draft coming up. The playoffs are moving fast this year (may not be a game 7 again this round) but even still, he needs to start planning like, now

fenton helped build the preds without a Sidney Crosby-type franchise player...that defense is awesome, thanks in part to phil housley as well, whom I wouldn't mind as head coach if they decide to go young

Different for everything.

Penguins offered Rutherford the job without even an interview.

good points, but that's what the scouting staff is for...they've already done all the legwork with meetings coming up in mid-may to compare lists...and from what I was told, there won't be a Bills-like scouting purge, at least at the amateur scouting level...there's also kevin devine still in house

Is there really much work left to be done on his part at this point in the playoffs?

My concern is if the Pegula's have made up their mind about him, they will not have any second interviews with other "qualified" candidates. If he truly is not available until June, they could pigeon hole themselves with the draft/expansion draft.
