I am not sure the Habs had or have anything that Colorado wants for Duchene. Other teams would come up with better offers. - Interloper
Oh a trade for Duchene implies One of (if not many of) Galchenyuk, Sergachev and Habs first round pick is going the other way.
Which might end up being a terrible trade for the Habs as well. |

I'm not sure if another young-ish, inconsistent centre who has difficulties in his own end is what the Avs would want? - leafsfann
If Galchenyuk goes back to focusing on hockey instead of.... well what he's been doing since he got injured, he'd instantly become our best forward.
Unfortunately, we're far from being certain it happens. |

Galy & Weber for Duchene - Garnie
I'd suggest Pacioretty but him and I scored the same amount of goals in the playoffs this year. |

Exactly. He had a chance to really solidify himself in the #1C role this season, instead he ended up playing wing on the 4th line from time to time. He's not consistent enough at putting the puck in the net to overshadow his defensive shortcomings. |

Next season will tell us what we have in Galchenyuk. He has the whole summer to think about he wants.
He'll either be our deeply needed #1 centre, or at least an impact forward like everyone thought he'd be.
Or he'll be a talented player not dedicated enough to his work to reach it's full potential. |

"Good defencemen are impossible to find"
"Good defencemen will cost a ton in trade"
Here was have a guy that WANTS to play for the Leafs...
Here we have a GOOD defencemen....
We don't have to give up any assets to get him....
It's only $4.5MM a year....
And all you guys do is b!tch about what he might be in 5 years?
Thank god the "R" word is not allowed to be uttered. - .HOHO.
excellent signing in my opinion.
now the Leafs should have Zaitsev, Soshkinov and any of the other Russian guys talk to Trymakin who obviously didn't want to play for the Canucks.... arrange a nice little deal with Canuckleheads... e.g. a 3rd pick or Carrick... and bring Trymakin back.

Aw poop, thought Stone was a good RD. Alzner or Kulikov maybe?
I guess the point is....we have a lot of options.
Every time I try to think of a line up, I realize I forget good players who could kill it for us. Forgot Sosh and Leivo in that last line up.
Between JVR, Sosh, Leivo, Kapanen, Brown, Hyman, Rychel, Andreas Johnsson, Leipsic, Engvel, Timashov........there should be something there to get a D without feeling any loss. That's not even including a draft pick here or there.
Nice feeling for a change. - underhill14
Definitely, any teams feeling the age crunch should look at a package of 2-3 players listed above for a decent Dman to get some youthful scoring in their lineup - kickstart the rebuild/retool whatever people are calling it these days. |

Love the signing of Zaitsev. He is a keeper and honestly we have him locked up affordably so it is a good thing really. Don't mind the term at all as it avoids a 6-7M request in a couple years.
Smith signing we all saw that coming, and if we can get Vegas to take Fehr all the better for both player and team. I think he could be a decent vet leader for them.
Trades, wait and see. Leivo going? I dunno, Uncle Lou plays everything so close to the vest it is impossible to know just what he has cooking. Add in we have a good amount of picks to package if need be too.... yeah, just wait and see. |

The Habs have to make it happen soon if they're going to with this group, the hockey fan in me hopes you're right, the Leafs fan in me hopes you're not.
If he's option 3, he could always learn this move to help the rebuild:

For what it's worth, I don't think Bergevin is a terrible GM.
Habs have drafted very little impact players in the last 10 years (We're still riding the great 2005 and 2007 drafts)..... at some point no matter how much you try.... you need to produce some quality players from inside the organisation if you're going to have success. |

Considering the Blues gave a 4th rounder for him, I'd have taken a shot at Yakupov too.
He's probably KHL or vegas bound. |

Hmm that's actually an interesting thought. I wonder if he would come back to the NHL for a different team. How long does Vancouver control his rights in the NHL? |

He got me thinking about the worst 1st overall picks in history and where he would rank. Is he the worst? Patrik Stefan? DiPietro? |
