I think the best way to utilize Ghost is to set him free and just live with his defensive shortcomings. More Paul Coffey, less Scott Stevens..... - MBFlyerfan

Make Gostisbehere a LW . . . problem solved. I'm actually not opposed to that crazy idea I have seen floated about. - fls13
Not only is.it crazy but it's a ridiculously bad idea. |

The better solution is to put Raffl on the Golden Knights roster or waive him. - fls13
Why would you waive him when you can trade him?

Probably, but you never know for sure. When Mark Howe was putting up 100 point seasons playing wing in the WHA in the 70s, no one pegged him for a Norris trophy finalist 10 years later.
Don't want to have a 5 page argument with you, just saying you can never know for sure that it wouldn't work. |

I'm pretty confident in ststing its a bad idea. The Howe situation is a rarity. Gostisbehere has been developed as a defenseman.
The only way you would have a 5 page argument with me.is if you decide to have one. Stick to the topic. |

Why?
Gostisbehere-Giroux-Simmonds
Lindblom-Filppula-Voracek
Konecky-Couturier-Schenn
I'd be happy with that and not feel the need to get a UFA winger. |

It was too good. Everything was (sort of) solved, aside from Oliver driving to who knows where, and all of a sudden this big ball just pops up and traps him...
...and Sid just does nothing? Maybe Lenny's still hanging out in there, too? She was able to be inside of both David and Sid at the same time, why not Oliver and Sid? - jmatchett383
I'm pretty sure Lenny was never in Sid's head. David created a place in his mind where he and Sid could be together. The only time Sid and Lenny came together was in that place in David's head. If she WAS in Sid's mind it would be because Farouk accessed David's powers to make that happen. I think Lenny/Farouk exists solely in the mind of Oliver. Unless Oliver has powers at the same level as David (doubtful) Farouk will be far less able to effect the outside world.
Just my opinion.
I have no idea what the ball at the end was about. |

How do you know Gostisbehere can be effective as a wing?
He is dynamic because he does what he does as a defenseman. but when you look at him do you really see someone who has more skill then say Weal or Konecny?
I think you lose his effectiveness once you try to make him something he is not.

I personally don't want to trade Ghost, but the topic comes up often. Mainly because we have Provy, Sanheim, Morin, Myers, Hagg etc. It's not that someone wants to trade him, but he could get us a solid forward in return. And when you have offensively gifted guys like Sanheim and Myers, who are also bigger and better defensively than Ghost, he becomes somewhat expendable to help another area out for our team. And I 100% agree with your second point about LW... I've mentioned before I would love to target a young LW like Drouin. Giroux has needed a 1LW for years. - arichardson22
Ghost isn't ever going to be as well rounded most likely as the above but I don't think any of them are going to be as dynamic as him. I really don't want to move Ghost |

He played D for his first 7 seasons in Minnesota. You can see from his ATOI numbers when he was playing D.

Okay. Burns is one, and he subsequently was transferred back to defense. So yes, it sort of happened once in the last 20 years. |

I think Gostisbehere shoots the puck better than either Weal or Konecny. I think the Flyers need to find ways to generate more goals somehow, some way. Gostisbehere to wing might be one crazy way . . . which is perfect for off season speculation. |

But again, that's a forward transitioning to defense. That has happened (with success) far more often than the opposite.
Mark Howe is also a Hall of Famer. |

I don't think anyone is asking him to be like the others. But he does need to be better in his own end. Even guys like Karlsson and Burns were asked to be better in their own zones.
He doesn't need to be a shutdown guy but he has to be able to defend and not be a liability like he was sometimes this year. |

I don't *want* to move anyone, not when the Flyers still are not certain what they really have in their young defensemen, but they might have to move someone (and you have to give something of value to get something of value) in order to put a Cup contending team on the ice . |
