I personally don't see why they fired WD with this in mind. If you want to appease fans, just tell us you 100% committed to a rebuild and the retool failed.
I do however think there are better and worse mentor types, Green is a rookie coach teaching rookie players... I don't like it, personally. But I'll leave it alone now.

People here think we ned someone to open the gate and send out kids and next year we get 50 wins.

There are some on here that have posted that we have gone through now 3 coaches and still get the same result.

Then you get the know it alls but I wont single anyone out (Hefty) .

We don't have the players to finish out of the bottom 5 so no coach is going to make a difference.

We will draft high this year and again next year and probably the year after,

I dunno ...Edmonton are the lotto winning team like Toronto ...and van city just wants to be TO west ...thus all the leafs Canucks hate
- Redmile247

I was thinking more in terms of my absolute hatred for each team, nothing to do with the lottery

I've always hated the Flames, and I always will...doesn't take away from the fact I admire that they've recently drafted well, just like the Leafs.

I hear Messier is available

I was just trying to say it wasn't fair desjardins got fired and a bunch of guys seem to think I am trolling. Not my intent at all. I want all Canadian teams to do well.

Just for clarity, let me say, I hate the Leafs and hope they never win....anything

Ok...now that we have an understanding; he was justifiably fired, for several reasons, wins and loses weren't necessarily one of them.

This team will finish in a very similar spot next year, I wonder if you will still be blaming it on the coach. Somehow its still the coach through three coaches of bottoming out. WD somehow got this team into the playoffs, like a person who somehow constructs a rocket out of parts found at the landfill. but, much like the garbage rocket, we knew it would go far or last long.

Fair enough.

I know what you mean that 30 mark is frowned upon so much for a long time. I think players careers will decline but for a player to lose 10% of their production every 2 years from 30 on. So they go from 1st line production to 2nd line to 3rd line. Usually their contracts are averaged out a bit thanks to ELC.

I am not a WD fan but if you are bringing out the same roster why bring in a fourth coach to try to get the old horse going?

You are right that they just fired the guy that some are claiming that Van needs as a coach next.

I've never blamed Willie for results. We have a terrible roster. Doesn't change the fact I think he is a sh!t coach. I don't care if we have 5 points next season. I want the kids to develop and I want to see a more entertaining brand of hockey

bingo. JB should made that move for Hamilton. Chiarealli trading Seguin and Hamilton was (frank)ing criminal, except it happened to Boston so I'm pretty stoked!

Not really. Same as Vrbata. Given his opportunity by the coach has one of the best seasons ever. Coach takes that away, he sucks. Goes to Arizona, given another good opportunity and does well. On the coach.
- manvanfan

But yet that aspect is overlooked because.. you know...Nuck players suck.

Because we need the whole organization to be on the same page. Willie wasn't committed to the kids/ rebuild.

If you have a true number one Dman next year then #30-31 is exactly where you want to finish.

So many on here this year wanting to lose the last couple of games in hopes we get Nico or Nolan who are good players not great. Next year when there is high end draft picks we want to win

I think, but whaddo I know, they needed some fundamental changes, along with someone who was willing to teach more.

Structurally they did not play well defensively for a team that couldn't score many goals. A -61 goal differential was almost last in the league, I think 243 goals against was 6th worst in the league.

LA had similar scoring issues, they only scored 19 more goals than the Canucks with a slightly more talented lineup, however, they only allowed 205 goals against with a 3rd string goaltender pretty much all year.

I guess in short it's not about the end result, but more about the process.

A player can make any coach look bad also though. Always two ways to look at things. When drastic change happens there is probably a reason.

The kids were benched because they were not playing good.

Virtanen did very little and Goldobin at times was lazy. When Goldobin was benched there was numerous posters on here saying he needed to be sent down.

Young players get ruined if given too much too soon. Willie, despite what I think about some of his choices, understood this simple but important fact. Kids develop in the AHL, unless you're a poop team. That's where 90% of them should be. Willie handled the icetime of the kids well, by the end of the season, Bo was burned out even though people comlained about him not getting enough ice. Tree was burned out, same thing—people complained. Hutton shouldn't be in the NHL, Willie (frank)ed that up. But for the most part, he didn't put them in over their head unless he thought they could handle it.

I disagree. It's on the player. Eriksson was given many opportunities by the coach, in my opinion.
