He's won two cups dude, this is (frank)ing retarded.

Torts won a cup too? Willy a Calder, Jarvis x6 stanleys (I should clarify as a player, or else I will get in sheet)

There has been widespread rumors of him having a huge disconnect from the locker room for years now. Why are people fixated on needing a veteran SCRAP coach.

because they are stupid.....

I think this is pretty accurate. But people saying Sutter didn't coach well, or that young guys didn't do well in his system isn't accurate either. I'm not drinking the koolaid of the right coach makes this a playoff team, in fact I think this is still a team that finishes bottom 5 next year regardless of what pick/coach we get. I'd just like to see someone who can help show the ropes, has experience. Because I think that has an effect on young kids, they shut up and listen to a coach that is established. Just like they shut up and listen to a player that is established. Am I going to be pissed if it's Green? No, I just don't think he brings anything new to the table so is not the best choice.
- neem55

Yeah thats kinda my point. Will any coach be a disaster? No I dont think so. Mackinnon/Duchene are still great players despite the trainwreck around them. Canucks just need someone who will be a little more liberal with the kids' mistakes and find those players in the draft that will be good no matter who coaches them, they are the future we need

It's not Desjardins' fault the Sedins are past their prime.
It's not his fault there were some injuries to key players.
It's not his fault the team has been stuck between rebuild and re-tool for years.
It's not his fault Louie Eriksson underachieved and was a questionable signing.

Scotty Bowman could not have taken that roster to the playoffs.
It's not fair but it's easy to fire the coach.

it's not fair I had to read this post.

is the term "SCRAPS" only applied to players, and is it forbidden to use for coaches that have been fired but we are so anxious and eager to hire?
- Codes1087

Nice use of SCRAPS Codes

He turned around a team that was going nowhere, got them to play a style that matched their skillsets and help lead them to two cups. Torts looks like a pretty good coach, he also was 100% right woth his assessment of this team.

Any chance we can lure Darryl Sutter come to Vancouver?

Does he fit?

- BrockBrock

It'd be worth it just for the comedic interviews he gives

but... you... just...said...he...had...two...

Anyway.

I just don't get this whole fixation on needing a veteran coach. It's not like this steaming pile of stool is going to be competitive next year anyway. Why would a veteran coach entertain coming here in the state it is in.

He was the right coach at the right time, something he wouldn't be in Vancouver.

Ya hard to believe he turned down the Pens job!

I don't know why Linden/JB would be keen to hire another rookie coach, I mean I've made the same mistake a few times—but this one seems obvious.

Easy enough to say but what experienced coach is out there?
Name one who is a winner or the answer for us that is available?

Willie said he never once received a negative comment from a fan on the street
- NorthNuck

Surprised? People aren't as tough and mouthy on the streets as they are on a message board.

Florida would be such a funny fit if it turns out, with the ex-Canuck history there. Maybe WD will ask for Dorsett
- neem55

That would be awesome. Open up a spot for JV, Labate or McEwen. Rumor was JB tried to move him before. Maybe with less term on his contract there is a taker.

I don't disagree here, my only other comment is: They have the best defensive pair in hockey in Calgary, brodie is probably the best #3. I don't like this team, but their defense makes Anahiem's look pretty pedestrian, with Fowler out it's not even a conversation. So calgary has the far better d, Anahiem the better O, and G is where the series gets decided IMO.

Maybe the first 3 are correct but you bring in a guy that averages around 60 points a season and he gets 24. That one is on the coach.

Remember last season when Babcock was terrible and he got a little testy about the roster he was given because he wanted to win?
