Would be smart to never get rid of our goaltending coaches, they've consistently done great work

Wait, you want someone not on the same page as management?

Wouldn't that be counter intuitive??

People were female doging about WD not toying the party line and playing to 'win' ( ) as opposed to tank like we assumed JB wanted. I don't personally buy this theory, jus saying, why would we want someone not on board with mgmt goals?

- dbot

Because these players/franchise getting better requires people who have minds of their own. I hate to say this but: look at the leafs. You think Lamarello, Shanahan and babs were peas in a pod? No. But they respected eachother tremendously and all want the same goal. That's what I would like, people that are hired because they are the best. Not because "he's been good for us at the AHL level". Green would be great as an assistant IMO. I'd like to see someone with experience come in and coach kids.

I'm not against all rookie coach hires, not sure why people make arguments like that as it seems kind of irrelevant. I'm talking about the Canucks. As in, who can best help this current roster as we rebuild. Guess who the leafs hired to coach a bunch of kids? A vet. Why? Because you want someone to help teach how to play the game at this level, not someone who is figuring it out.

They asked Willie who he liked in the playoffs and he said "I think Calgary has the ability to surprise"

They wont get by the winner of SJ/EDM IMO. Could beat the Ducks, who are minus Fowler.

I dunno.
it sounds like you're saying they all want the same goal, but yet have minds of their own?

For Toronto, i always felt that Shanahan came in with a plan to tear it down, hire lou for mgmt support and then threw a boat load of money at what they viewed as the best coach available, hiring him to a super long term and with being upfront that they were going to suck for awhile, until they got out from under some bad contracts.

Vancouver tried to retool on the fly and everyone was also in agreement, it just didn't work out (and Tortonto would not be working out either,if they hadn't won a draft lottery that landed them Auston).

edit: what's my point?

i don't know.

everyone should be on teh same page, hopefully that page will lead to success.

Any chance we can lure Darryl Sutter come to Vancouver?

Does he fit?

I don't like Sutter, but he would be a good coach for a young team like ours IMO.

That is what I thought he meant, same goal, some different ideas on how to get there.

The challenge with that is following along with the vision as agreed after everything is set.

But this sounds like WD to a certain extent. He said he knew he had to play the kids, but had his own way of bringing them along.

Right. My point being: a way based some experience at the NHL level would be better.

Cause all the remaining "veteran" coaches are trash.

Yup, it's pretty obvious that Green should be the front runner. Perhaps WAS assistant will get an interview as well but I doubt it.

the canucks should hire the best coach available.

Just because we hired a coach without nhl experience and it didn't work out, how does that mean we should hire a vet coach now?

Do people actually think that because one didn't work out that means the next won't work out or that doing the opposite will have a better result??

- dbot

this indeed. Truly mind boggling

So you're going to play the mention one player card?

He did wonders for Doughty and Muzzin. There I just did two

I think he's probably done coaching in the NHL for a while. Kings convinced him to come to LA because they were cup contenders

There has been widespread rumors of him having a huge disconnect from the locker room for years now. Why are people fixated on needing a veteran SCRAP coach.

I think people are putting a little too much emphasis on coaching here. It definitely is important, you need the right fit, but the difference between Horvat and McDavid isnt McLellan. Nor is Sutter the difference between Doughty and Stecher. The team lacks the star talent that rises above the rest, regardless of who coaches them. This draft hopefully will help continue to fix that

Totally agree

Nothing wrong with a battle scarred, seasoned old school coach. Pat Quinn type, who commands respect, something that's missing with the younger kids these days.

Bad period? Walk into the dressing room and break a stick in half. Treats the players who go to war for him like his own.
