No one is denying that the young guys need work , but the old guys are not that good and teaching them the wrong way

This is such a crock of poop

No he wasn't.
He was brought in during Burke's 're-tool' phase, along with JVR, Kessel etc, in the sole interests of making the playoffs and being competitive, at the expense of their future. (Hello Seguin and Hamilton).

When that didn't pan out, they shipped him out to hit rock bottom.

On your second point, they do not have a better overall D-core and/or back-end, they just score a poop load more goals then we do.

Toronto's Goals Against: 226.
Vancouver's Goals Against: 225.

Free flowing hockey to a team that sets up shop for 60 minutes. I'll let you figure out which team is which.

Exactly time to ship out Tanev and Edler to hit bottom, oh wait Van is pretty much there with them in the line up.

Then trade or sign someone on a short term reasonable deal to pick up the slack. Get assets for both of them now and keep on stocking the shelves.
- VanHockeyGuy

In theory, absolutely.
In practice, who and at what price, can Vancouver reasonably expect to sign/trade for that can play top line minutes to shelter the kids?

Again, getting the high picks is the easy part, developing them in a half decent environment isn't.

That's the problem...

Mentors

Tanev 1 G 8 A 9 PTS
Edler 5 G 15 A 20 PTS
Sbisa 2 G 10 A 12 PTS

Students

Stecher 3 G 21 A 24 PTS
Hutton 5 G 14 A 19 PTS

The Students have passed the teachers on a team that struggles to score

Isn't that the entire point?

Exactly!! Vantel paints it as a black and white picture, it's not that simple. Minutes, level of competition are a HUGE factor.
- LeftCoaster

No need to shatter their confidence.
Patience.
More big changes after next season.
Most likely a top 5 pick in 2018.
Gluten-free buns for the soy dogs.

-52 GF/GA 4 th worst over all .
45 shots against a night
173 Goals for worst ever in Canucks history.

This is the team that you are trying to salvage and afraid to try something different

Yep, and the entire reason a 23 man roster plays that way comes down to 2 players

Yes that is the point . These mentors are sucking up TOI and cap space and doing little else.

Yup I'm good with that. I'm just thinking of the young guys, they're not ready yet. They need some veterans still.
- LeftCoaster

What's happened with both of them is they've become complacent. Happy be be on a bottom feeder team. Looking forward to going home for the summer. Not the type of example to set for OJ and the rest. Get someone who's had a taste of the Kool Aid.

Do you think Stetcher and Hutton get those points when simultaneously tasked with shutting down the oppositions best players?

We are at the John Ferguson Jr era right now . You need someone to step up and make big balls moves.

Hanging on to players for fear of failing when you are already sitting at the bottom is stupid.

What are Edler and Tanev going to teach The Turn the Other Cheek Style? The Shoot The Puck into to Logo Style ? Or The Hitless Whitewash technique

Well Hutton doesn't play with Edler or Tanev so yes definitely for him and I think Stecher is a very smart player so I am going to again guess yes.

Its not about teaching and mentoring, its all about ice-time, deployment and quality of competition.

D is on the same pace from last season
Players like Bartkowski, hamhuis and weber over Stecher, Tryamkin, Gudbranson.

The staples have been Tanev, Edler, Sbisa

You do realize we would not be playing with 4 Dmen if they go . You are allowed to replace them with the cap space you save.

No they don't, but in turn Tanev and a Edler aren't the right vet dmen to have. Edler doesn't want to be traded because he is comfy in Van, that's not a good mentor. As for a Tanev, he hasn't been reliable for the last couple of yrs....we need some mor reliable to mentor the young guys.

He doesn't play with them because he's being sheltered from a more difficult role he is not ready for...

Remember when last year how we were told how horrible the D would be without Hamhuis? Exactly the same.

Yes Stecher does, he's paired with Edler 29% of the time while TRYING to shut the oppositions top pairing. Huttons usually with Tram.

Theres also no reason to think that Guddy can't/isn't going to step up and log a lot of mins next season IF Tanev or Edler disappear.

Hutton had a slightly better season stats wise LAST season then he is this season. Last season he played top pairing for long stretches.
