There's going to have to be A LOT of luck involved with turning this poop-show around. Like Oilers or Leafs luck. - LeftCoaster
That's why we should load up on picks this draft. |

They also won two Stanley Cups (1918 & 1922) in a four team league, just to clarify. As the Arenas and the St. Patricks. The NHL played the PCHA for the Cup, both times they defeated Vancouver in the Cup Challenge. Both of which are in their 13 total. - LeftCoaster

Without Edler and Tanev the team was horrible this year, some people have short memories. However, if they're going to be bad, trade Tanev for a good return and sign a veteran D (if you can) so you're not throwing the young guys to the wolves.
You can't just get rid of all the experience, you need vets like Edler, who plays the toughest minutes for the club, to take the load off the younger guys. - LeftCoaster
Isn't that what you come in here daily and post about? Getting a number one pick?
I am glad Tanev and Edler are not letting us be horrible because that 69 points 27 th spot sure had me fooled

For one, Dion has little in common with both Edler or Tanev, but ok, I'll play along.
Ziatsev never played with Dion.
Gardiner was horrible defensively with Dion, and continues to be horrible without him.
Rielly was a 5th overall pick and frankly, is better then anyone we have in the system (including O.J), but remains suspect defensively, with and without Dion....He's a career minus -64.
Moreover, you guys talk as though its Toronto's D-core that is the engine that drives that boat when in reality, its the team's biggest weakness lol. - Whiskey-Tango
They have everything in common, he was there to mentor and teach the kids, failed to do so.
Ziatsev never did, probably explains why he doesn't suck. His +/- sure does. On the topic of +/- Gardiner is 26. A plus first time in his career with no Dion.
Toronto's D core with the likes of Roman Polak and Matt Hunwick seem to be a better overall D core then Vancouvers with the likes of Edler, Tanev and a bunch of kids will a lot of potential. |

You have to take that in context though, I don't care about being terrible, per say, what I care about is letting the good young players Benning has brought in develop properly.
That means letting Edler and Tanev play the tough minutes that they do while sheltering Tryamkin and Stecher until they're ready. |

This is a very important off season for the future of this club.
Hopefully Linden quits. |

Trade Edler and Tanev . Draft a Dman with your return first rounder . Get a top 6 forward with the other trade.
Sign Tyutin and Russell 2 mil each and watch the Canucks drop from 27 to 28 th |

Why would he quit? He has to go on tv once and a while, shake hand get his picture taken and collect a hefty paycheck. Not to hard. Really I dont see him doing much else. |

No he wasn't.
He was brought in during Burke's 're-tool' phase, along with JVR, Kessel etc, in the sole interests of making the playoffs and being competitive, at the expense of their future. (Hello Seguin and Hamilton).
When that didn't pan out, they shipped him out to hit rock bottom.
On your second point, they do not have a better overall D-core and/or back-end, they just score a poop load more goals then we do.
Toronto's Goals Against: 226.
Vancouver's Goals Against: 225. |

Why do they have to be? What they need to be, is able to play tough minutes until the youth is ready. Trade Tanev, or Edler, fine, I'm indifferent about that, as long as you have a backup plan to replace him/them, because our young guys aren't ready to eat 20 minutes a night. |

Then trade or sign someone on a short term reasonable deal to pick up the slack. Get assets for both of them now and keep on stocking the shelves. |

Yup I'm good with that. I'm just thinking of the young guys, they're not ready yet. They need some veterans still. |

Exactly!! Vantel paints it as a black and white picture, it's not that simple. Minutes, level of competition are a HUGE factor. |
