Seriously how much can they fall in the standings. Losing is Losing
Get something for aging assets while they have value.
We are already getting 45 shots against - VANTEL
Edler can go now, Tanev before he get's his NTC. If we need leadership sign or trade for an aging D. |

It's one think to tank, another to 'blow it up'.
Edler and Tanev are literally the only top 4 D-men we have, with perhaps OJ being the only realistic option to grow into that role within the conceivable future.
We are likely going to be getting high picks in the next few years in spite of those two, so why move them?
I think it would be better for those two to take the losing load as opposed to some twenty something rookie. We still need some professional base for development. - Whiskey-Tango
With Elder and Tanev, the kids are supposed to be learning from these 2. Edler is probably worse then Biega right now. Tanev is the only top pairing guy but he brings very little except trying to block every shot, every time. Watching the rest of the young D try to block every shot every time. Tanev is terrible at getting stick on stick.
Trading the 2 of them would allow Van to take a run at Alzner. Sign someone like Dennis Siedenberg for 3rd pairing and mentoring. |

If you could trade Tanev to a Bubble team for a first round pick and draft Cal Foote that would be a huge win |

Yep, time to blow it up.

It's about who's going to carry the load for all that losing.
You want O.J to be thrown in playing 25 minutes a night on a bottom feeder team in a highly volatile market? |

Don't win with them in the line up, I don't think it's blowing it up. Changing of the guard. |

There you go 4 score and twenty years ago Leafs won a cup as Canada went to battle in WW1 - VANTEL
They also won two Stanley Cups (1918 & 1922) in a four team league, just to clarify. As the Arenas and the St. Patricks. The NHL played the PCHA for the Cup, both times they defeated Vancouver in the Cup Challenge. Both of which are in their 13 total. |

We are probably going to be a bottom feeder for a few years and Edler and Tanev wont change that one lick.
In fact getting away from their boring style might speed things up |

We have leadership in Gudbransen. He has said Vancouver is where wants to be. We haven't got his best look and he is the defensive leader we need in the locker room and on the ice. |

I don't think so. Players can technically move, but would not be eligible for playoffs, or for the AHL affiliates. You may be able to waive players for mutual termination of contract, but don't know for sure one way or the other. - lumlums
Cheers!
I knew they wouldnt be for ahl but thought maybe nhl. We just have so many useless ufas hanging around. Just get them out of here. |

I would be over the top, throw in the possibility of us getting the Columbus 2nd, JB will have some chips to make a deal like that. A high D & C in no particular order would be a huge win. |

Sign a bunch to 1 year deals and move them at the deadline. Best way to speed up the rebuild. |

I don't see that as the case. This team is changing. We have a couple guys that I would give their minutes to next year and see if they could handle the load. Look past the "they're our only top 4 guys"
As to why move them it is basically the best case scenario for acquiring because defence are at a premium. Example, Larssen for Hall.
I could't disagree more. Filter in and filter out. - thundachunk
Those guys you are referring to couldn't even handle their minutes this year with the likes of Edler and Tanev shielding them.
I believe in progressive development, but to simply assume players are guaranteed to improve on a yearly basis is wrong and is something this fan-base has been doing for decades.
Yes, D is at a premium. So we move them both for picks, rookies take their spot and conceivably don't pan out, we then have to trade back for D......at a premium... |

Id be pretty shocked if we didnt get that pick. They cant really have any better of a record and the draft class sucks. |

I doubt Edler waives but you never know. They should move Tanev before his NTC kicks in. |

They all want to be here! That's why we can trade Tanev and/or Edler.
Don't any of these guys want to win anytime soon? They should take the Tom Rowe approach with those guys. |

Your missing the point.
Edler and Tanev leave.
Someone has to take their spot.
That someone will be young and inexperienced.
Do those rookies benefit in the development sense playing in roles they are not ready for.
Its nice to see y'all hop on the tank-wagon (finally), but getting the high draft picks is the easy part.
Developing those picks in a meaningful and proactive way is the hard part. We are not going to get a franchise savior ala McDavid, thus throwing every new shiny toy onto the top line/1st defensive pairing is a good way to instigate a 'bust-factory' type approach. |
