You can't win unless you build through the draft, which means you have to accept losing for a few years. - LeftCoaster
How is Wpg Car NJ Ari Col doing with that system? |

I have been here way too long.... 10 years.
In that time I don;t think I have ever seen so much infighting in the room. |

Despite popular belief, even he couldn't make chicken soup out of the chicken poop that is the Canucks. They need more talent. |

I think they have increased talent but now need coordination of the talant. Hitch would be good.

Well Colorado won two Cups using that system, so did New Jersey, so not bad! Winnipeg hasn't had a top five pick in a decade and Arizona shouldn't even be in the conversation considering the constant state of their (frank)ed up franchise.
Chicago, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Edmonton, the NYI's, Detroit etc also won Cups using the lose/draft/win method. |

I was bugging them yesterday .
There poll question was was it a bad choice not taking Tkachuk
I sent them a message " I don't know if a company that chose Pratt and Jake Edwards over Scott Rintoul should be polling the public about bad choices" |

I agree but the talent they have is really young and needs time to grow, that's gonna take some time. It ain't happening next year. |

Not in the last 10 years when they have been drafting high
Pretty sue Laine was to 5 and golden boy Ehlers was 7 and Schiefle was also very high |

funny read. Benning and Willie certainly aren't on the same page. Benning has gone full tank Willie is 100% fired in a few weeks - CanuckDon
Yeah you got it. Biggest tell was this statement from WD:
"I talked to the group about how hard work beats talent unless talent works hard."
Yeah like the Ducks worked really hard to beat the Canucks or so many other well run teams that know how to use talent. Hard work is needed but how you define that and apply it is key in getting talent to work better. Working smartly is effective.
Plus why doesn't he apply that minute reducing or scratching method to them vets that float? It's always the young talent isn't doing enough. But the grinders they are golden. |

True. One thing to insert new blood & talent & another thing to find chemistry.
Maybe thats what a new HC could do idk |

It's not a fool-proof method, you need good management, UFA's and trades to supplement it obviously.
That said, only Colorado has been drafting high, the others haven't. Even Arizona has only had one top five pick in the past nine years. You're mistaken if you think they're drafting high, they're not.
Also....it doesn't take away from the fact it's worked for them in the past and it'll work again in the future. |

I don't have a problem with tanking if there are excellent players to be drafted.
I do have a problem when the draft class is only rated good |

I did not say it didn't
I am saying I don't think it is worth losing on purpose when there is only minimal difference between the number 4 pick and the number 18 |

When you're winning there's nothing to complain about, except that you lost the Cup finals lol. When you're losing everyone thinks their solution to the problem is the right one. |

Only a fool would believe that! You may find a good player at 18, but history dictates the best players come from higher in the draft, it takes the element of luck out of the deal...not all of it, but some of it. |

Yes it's not popular but there is an angle to it. He's back in the NHL. He's grown as a coach. Wouldn't cost a ton for the chance for HC. Would he handle the circus of who to play more and when?!?
