Not sure I thought results would be much better, but I did figure their was enough talent to be a playoff team.....I really hoped they would have a younger team that was entertaining and was forming an identity of a team that regardless of being young showed up every night and made it tough on the other team.
I had also hoped that the development of Schenn and Couturier would be such that if Vorecek and Giroux weren't going on a certain night that they would be there on a consistent basis to pick up the slack.
I guess I also thought Mason was a better goalie then what he has been able to show. I also thought Macdonald would become a very valuable piece that could be depended on to help bridge the gap between the current D core and the future.

The major issue is that on a lot of night there's a team that lacks jump and considering there representing this organization and playing in the greatest league in the world I don't get it.

- landros 2

You have every right to expect more of Couturier and Schenn has former high picks and it's unfortunate that neither can carry a team. While neither are super stars, I view both as important players. We all know Couturier is stellar at shutting down top lines and chipping in offensively. Schenn I don't think gets enough credit, especially this season. He was a big part of the ten game winning streak at a position he hasn't consistently played in years. HE can and has played all three forward positions in a pinch, which no other player has on this team. Leads the league in PP goals in a spot that's toughest to produce from. I mean the guy doesn't really touch the puck much from where he's expected to play, so he has to react quickly when he does touch it.

Schenn has played three games less than Simmonds and currently one more point. Schenn is better now at age 25 than Simmonds was at this age in terms of balanced offense.

I view Couturier and Schenn as equally as important to the other, just different roles. Both very tough roles. I expect both to remain important players.

Oh boy, we want to pretend Hextall uses points per game to determine if a guy should be in the NHL?

He also played in the NHL last year

- YuenglingJagr

Hextall actually watches all the Phantoms games. He doesn't just look at stats.

That's why Weal came up, not Carchidi's boy Carey, when the Flyers needed a winger to score goals.

It's weird to see people so desperate to avoid giving the GM any credit for the player he traded for and promoted and kept on the roster, doing well on the Flyers.

Here is a novel idea... don't replace him. Upgrade him.

When my 1990 acura legend breaks down I'm not going to find another 1990 acura legend. Maybe I could buy a 2010 VW Beetle instead!

- youarewrong

That 2010 VW Beetle costs about 6x as much as the 1990 Acura.

Well you've completely lost me. I don't think that is what anyone has said. What he said is that it isn't a coincidence that Hextall decided it was time for Weal to move back up to the NHL right as Konecny was injured. Hextall also sent Weal to the AHL at the beginning of the season. I was someone that wanted him here the whole time, and even I think it is pretty obvious why he got the chance he did.

I will add that although I give Hextall full marks for that trade, Weal was not the reason it was made. LA had a roster crunch that allowed a player like him to be available though.

I don't think it's a given that he is the same player that went to the AHL at the beginning of the season. Flyers could've recalled a different player. I think it's very possible that Weal improved and got better as the season went along, and developed to the point where the Flyers felt better about his chances of becoming a regular at the NHL level.

I edited it because I knew it was going to get taken as "he is playing the same way" I just meant Jordan Weal was sent to the AHL. I wasn't trying to open that can of worms

You could be right about that, I don't know. I think what we're seeing, at least I hope we are, is that Weal is a late bloomer who is making the most of his chance. He has been impressive and he looks like a bona fide NHL player now. I didn't think that in the very limited views that I had of him before.

That notwithstanding, the players need to take ownership of the issue, too. They (players and management) are all in it for the money and both are equally culpable here.

Funny, Wasn't the Emery situation with the Flyers not the Blackhawks. Or did he attack Holtby twice?

Wow!

It also leads me to my next point. The only way to really reduce concussion and serious collision injuries is to take away the hard plated body armor these players started wearing about 25 years ago.

I love all the quotes that show direction from the league about how to answer certain questions.

...but we need quotes from these people to know what we are talking about
