Obviously, you pretty much have an unfettered right to say or joke about whatever you want (with very few limits). But, other people, in turn, have a right to judge you for it. That's just the way it is -- isn't it?
- Pete V

Oh sure. Great thing about free speech, it works both ways.

Also I think most people know TJ by now, and it would be really dumb to judge him off a joke most didn't find funny.

To be fair, I hated him before that joke.

I was absolutely not judging him. Just stating that the comment was offside, imo. You two seem to be the ones I share opinions with the most around here, I'd say.

You gotta warm up your audience, my friend. I laughed my ass off watching Jim Jeffries bit about Bill Cosby. But as a general rule of thumb, no, rape bad.
Similar to hanging with some buddies a few years back, watching a comedian they liked. He got into a bit about cancer which was completely offside, since I had just lost my sister to it months before. Not that he isn't a funny guy, but I just got up and left.

Which is completely understandable. I think for me its more when someone says "you can't say that". My 1st response is "who the (frank) are you to tell me what I can't say."

Not that you were saying that by any means. Just the whole thought processes of people deciding what can and can't be said.

Not wholly related to this conversation, but I love when people cite the First Amendment in cases where it doesn't apply. Like when someone gets fired for something they did online and all the Constitution-experts get up in arms about that person's "right to freedom of speech" having been violated.

Well thats just it, there are rules and you have to live by them. If your making racist jokes in your office and you get fired, its not a 1st amendment issue. Its you are one dumb (frank) issue.

You are absolutely 100% right.

People think the First Amendment allow them to say whatever they want without recourse. The Constitution applies to government action, so while the government cannot punish you for most types of speech (there are limits), your employer can certainly fire your ass for the things you say.

Also whoever reported TJ, after he already apologized in 3 different posts seriously needs to get (frank)ing laid.

Yeah, I always enjoy watching someone confidently declare something when they are blatantly wrong.

That's the world we live in now. You don't need to no poop about anything. Just confidently and loudly blurt that poop out. Knowing poop is overrated.

My mom actually let me and my brother watch that with her. I think I was 10. Didn't understand 1/2 of it.

My second favorite cultural phenomenon is people posting articles from horribly biased "news" (that's a generous description) outlets like "YoungCons.com" or "OccupyDemocrats" on Facebook and trying to pass them off as fact/the basis of their political stance.

Seriously?!?!? Come on people, we can police ourselves here, can't we?
No need to bring the Man into this.

I am with you on this as well. Obviously, people know my political leanings around here. But, the fact is that being overly partisan makes you stupid. The unfortunate part of it as that applies to most of the people that represent us now.

It is simple as far as I am concerned. Just ask yourself the simple question if the other side did the same exact thing that I am defending, would I be female doging up a storm.

Sometimes there is just objective truth. Sometimes you are either just right or wrong.

Need to call Tanner Glass up to help police this thread, IMHO. Don't want anyone taking liberties with the best posters, like me and...that's pretty much it.

But what's really important is that, when you're wrong, you make sure that you personally insult anyone who points it out.
