this beta-led team with the no-push culture coach in the soft logo uniforms had the most successful stretch this franchise has ever seen. But yeah, terrible job by them
- WhiteLie

0 Stanley Cups. We have yet to have a successful stretch as a franchise. IF we weren't led by pansies who take rabbit punches from rats and come away with a 10min misconduct for whining about it, we WOULD have 1 cup.

I don't think it matters if your captain can fight but they should be able to stand up for themselves. Nothing wrong with wanting a player that can provide some physicality in your leadership group.
- CanuckDon

I would 100% agree with you. A Captain would be someone who doesn't take stuff, doesn't make untimely penalties, stands up for his linemates when needed, etc etc.

My point was to counter those who are puffing their chests, smoking cigars and speaking as though we need a jack off all trades to be the next captain.

How is working out for Dallas and Colorado. Takes more than just strength a bit of scoring touch to gain respect of your peers.

Horvat with the C
EG with an A

Sutter with an A (to be replace by Boeser in 2 years)

not at all.

But my point had nothing to do with the Sedins. My point is that you don't need a guy who is going to throw hits and fight in order to be a good captain.

- Codes1087

I get that. My take for the new leadership group of new future core will be Bo, BB and Guddy. Doesnt hurt to have one kick ass type to speak up. But either way see all 3 as balanced credible leaders.

Edit. Just saw Don and DCT already beat me to it

Horvat is my number 1 choice for captain for sure. Careful though, he might not meet the "alpha-male" criteria as per some other posts

No arguments here...although I respect Sedin, ideally your captain has more of a physical edge. Standing up for teammates, laying the body once in awhile, these are traits that inspire the young guys

Yes, picking another player to wear the A is tough. Couldn't really think of anyone other than Sutter and I don't think he is a great choice.

12/30 NHL teams have never won a cup. San Jose has had alpha leaders, hardass coaches, and that mean shark keeps eating hockey sticks!

And I am glad your alternate reality crystal ball works! Who would've thought that the team with the best powerplay in the league tried to play to their strengths all season long only to get bent over in the finals. I am glad that changing their mentality would have meant they would have been equally successful and got by the Sharks despite going 7/26 on the PP and only scoring 20 all series...

Canucks signed this late bloomer NCAA free agent. He was on the radar. Is a high risk high reward offensive inclined type player. Not sure if he's being brought in now with his ELC. But he's another left shooting smallish skilled forward.

Makes things interesting among those who they already got like him. Can we say that he's the death nell for the older Megna at least not seeing him back again for depth. If JB brings him in now to short handed Nucks for a look it might be an indicator if he can be good depth as a waiver exempt call up from the Comets next season.

How is this an excuse for THIS hockey market to have never won a cup... I don't care or keep track of how every other team is mismanaged, but our franchise has been a constant cluster(frank).

It's BB. I do believe a leader needs a level head and composure. Can overcome adversity. Isn't shy to speak up and show up. Is a top player. Along with Bo and Guddy BB has that going for him.

exactly, who the boss right?!
and if he'd been pulled in game 3 in 2011 we'd be cup champs

you're being dramatic. You are also being too close minded. He is shedding light that not everything in the NHL revolves around the Canucks. We aren't the only team experiencing problems. I don't know if you realize how hard it is to win a cup, or how hard it is to make it to the Stanley cup finals, not that I am being complacent with the lack of cups we have won, but there is a reason why soo many great players never get their name engraved.

I didnt realize geography was relevant to how teams are run. The people in this market just want one really bad so we deserve it!

Its nice to know we would have had one though

No team will win anything if they score 8 goals in a 7 game series. We were lucky that series went 7 games.

Winner winner.

40% of teams have never won and 17% of teams have never even made the finals. Everyone is trying just as hard to win (in various seasons mind you). The fact Canucks have been to Game 7 of the finals twice and 2 presidents trophies is a sign that they were a successful franchise that nearly did everything right. It sucks they lost but they need to reset and go again
